... Read moreWhen I first started tackling systems of equations on the SAT, I found myself overwhelmed by the multiple steps involved, especially when variables were shared between equations. One technique that really helped me was the substitution method — solving one equation for a variable before plugging it back into the other. This approach kept me from trying to do too much mentally at once, which was always a recipe for confusion. Another strategy that made a huge difference was consistent practice using problem banks filtered for just systems of equations. I did about 15 problems in a row regularly, focusing solely on this skill. Repetition allowed me to recognize patterns and avoid common pitfalls, especially errors like distributing negatives incorrectly. Every time I got a problem wrong, I reflected on why, which was crucial for improvement. For instance, I learned that the mistake of mishandling negatives was the main cause of my wrong answers. Catching such recurring errors became a game-changer. Over time, this deliberate practice transformed my approach — I stopped panicking and started understanding problems more deeply. If you’re preparing for the SAT, I recommend creating a study plan that tackles one skill at a time—like systems of equations—and using digital tools or tutors that can analyze your work and point out your exact mistakes. This structured approach helped me climb from a 1280 to a 1500, and I truly believe fixing tiny, repeated mistakes is the key rather than relying on last-minute cramming or luck. Remember, systems of equations don’t have to be intimidating anymore. With the right strategy and deliberate practice, you can approach these problems with confidence and improve your SAT math score significantly.
