cozy comfy soupy dumplings :)
this might be one of the better soup dumpling spots I’ve had in NYC! they had thin wrappings and they were filled pork soup. ☺️
growing up in shanghai my standards are high so compared to shanghai probably still a 8/10 but i was impressed! 🥟
@steam_nyc is a homey chinese eatery in chelsea and the food was amazing! It was such comfort food and made so well. They have a large variety of soup dumplings, but I always end up liking the traditional pork ones the best. Outside from the soup dumplings, the pork ribs and the beef scallion pancakes were probably the table favorites- and for good reason, they were both amazing and so well made!🥰
My personal favs was the pork soup dumplings, WuXin pork ribs. steamed chili lime fish, and their garlic bokchoy (lol). My friends looooved their beef scallion pancake rolls 🙂
highly recommend for chinese comfort food in nyc!

Finding that perfect soup dumpling spot in NYC can feel like a quest, especially when you have high standards, like I do after growing up with authentic flavors in Shanghai! But let me tell you, Steam NYC in Chelsea truly impressed me. Their pork soup dumplings are a revelation – the wrappers are incredibly thin, just like they should be, holding in that rich, flavorful pork soup that bursts in your mouth with every bite. It’s hard to find that balance, but they absolutely nail it. When you look at a 'dumpling menu,' especially for soup dumplings, you might wonder what to choose. At Steam NYC, while I’m a loyal fan of their traditional pork soup dumplings, they also offer a sampler. This is fantastic if you're with friends or just want to explore! Samplers often include a variety, letting you taste different fillings or preparations. It's a great way to discover a new favorite beyond the classic, though the classic pork here is truly exceptional. Don't hesitate to ask their friendly staff for recommendations if you're unsure – they often know what's freshest or what a first-timer would love. What makes their menu stand out isn’t just the dumplings; it’s the whole experience. From the moment you step into this homey and cozy spot, you feel like you're in for a treat. Beyond the dumplings, their WuXin pork ribs are an absolute must-try – falling off the bone and coated in a delicious, slightly sweet glaze. And if you’re looking for something savory and satisfying, the beef wrapped scallion pancakes are crispy, flaky, and packed with flavor. Every dish feels well-thought-out and made with care, reflecting a true passion for Chinese comfort food. I’ve explored many Chinese restaurant menus across NYC, and Steam NYC offers a fantastic array that goes beyond just dumplings. Their steamed chili lime fish offers a zesty, fresh counterpoint, and even their simple garlic bok choy is perfectly cooked – little details that make a big difference. Looking at the prices, they are very reasonable for the quality and portion sizes you get in Chelsea. For instance, the pork soup dumpling sampler at $14 is a steal for a taste of their best. It's not just a meal; it’s an experience that transports you, a true 'soul' food moment. So, next time you're craving authentic, high-quality Chinese dumplings and more, make sure Steam NYC is on your list. You won't be disappointed by the rich flavors and the warmth of this Chelsea gem!
