It was fast food because I didn’t have time to meal prep.
It was skipping workouts because passing exams mattered more.
It was clocking in tired and clocking out just to go study. Or not clocking it at all to study.
It was miles on my car.
Money in my gas tank.
Tears in private.
Faith in public.
It was being a mom, a daughter, caregiver, an employee, and a student. All at the same time.
From LPN to RN, I didn’t just level up professionally…
I stretched mentally, spiritually, and emotionally.
The journey was heavy.
But so is the crown. 👑👩🏽⚕️
God carried me through every exam, every tear, and every mile. I didn’t do this alone.

From my own experience and stories from fellow nurses, this journey is layered with constant challenges and emotional tests. The demanding schedule means that meal prepping often takes a back seat, resulting in grabbing whatever fast food is convenient to keep going. Prioritizing exams can force you to put workouts and self-care on hold, raising the risk of burnout.
Driving long distances to clinicals or work adds mileage and expense, but more importantly, it tests your resolve each day. Whether you’re a mom, a caregiver, or working multiple jobs, nursing school requires tight time management and unwavering commitment. Behind every success, there are private moments of exhaustion and emotional strain, yet there is also the public demonstration of faith and hope that keeps nurses moving forward.
Mentally, spiritually, and emotionally, the transition from an LPN to an RN stretches you beyond professional growth. It cultivates resilience, empathy, and a stronger character. A supportive community or faith foundation can be invaluable, helping you push through the toughest days. Remembering verses like Philippians 4 can provide comfort and strength during late-night study sessions and clinical challenges.
For those balancing nursing education with family and work, it’s crucial to find moments to recharge and reach out for support. Sharing experiences with peers and mentors can lighten the load and inspire new perspectives. Ultimately, the crown of achievement is earned with every tear, mile, study hour, and prayer—reminding us that the heart and soul behind nursing are as vital as the skills and knowledge acquired.
