To elevate the dish, I often use a brown gravy mix or onion soup mix, similar to the ones pictured, to add a robust and savory depth to the sauce. Using an onion soup and dip mix can really enhance the flavor without requiring extra seasoning work. I mix it with sour cream or the cooking liquid to create a rich gravy that coats the beef tips beautifully. One tip I’ve found helpful is to sear the beef tips first in a hot pan before placing them in the crockpot. This seals in the juices and adds a nice caramelized flavor. Then, I add the gravy mix and some beef broth or water, and let it slowly simmer for about 6-8 hours on low. When it comes to the mashed potatoes, I recommend making them creamy with plenty of butter and a splash of cream or milk, and seasoning with salt and pepper to taste.
