Lemme learn something new 🍋
I’ve always been an athletic person and have done all this sports. I come from a musical family, but was never put into any music lessons besides band that I played the clarinet. Three of my kids play piano, so I thought- why not learn an instrument as well? It’s never too late to learn something new. This is your sign to try something new ✨
I find that learning piano has been so calming and has made me focus on my task. It also goes by so fast. I feel like I’m learning quickly. I can’t wait to start playing songs!
What is something new you’ve decided to take on this year?
Starting something new like learning piano later in life can be a surprisingly rewarding experience. From my personal journey, what helped me stay motivated was recognizing the small progress daily — whether it was mastering a simple scale or playing a short melody. It’s interesting how practicing an instrument can bring a calmness similar to meditative mindfulness. When I practice, I find myself fully engaged and focused, which feels like a great break from the rush of daily life. Additionally, piano playing has helped me connect more deeply with my children, as we share music sessions and exchange tips. I noticed that setting small goals—such as learning a Chopin piece or playing a favorite tune—makes the learning more tangible and fun. There's also something very encouraging about watching your skills grow quickly when you commit regularly, even if it's just 15-20 minutes a day. If you come from a family with musical roots or even if you don’t, it's never too late to pick up an instrument. The benefits go beyond just playing music; it enhances concentration, boosts mood, and can even improve memory. Plus, engaging with music fosters creativity, which can spill over positively into other areas of your life. For anyone considering this path, I suggest finding online tutorials or apps that teach piano at your own pace, joining local music groups for encouragement, or even using social media platforms like TikTok to discover quick tips and inspiration. Learning something new—be it piano or any other skill—not only enriches life but also adds moments of joy and fulfillment throughout your year.
