Proverbs 13-16 bible study

Tonight’s study is on proverbs 13-16. Just spending 5-10 minutes with the Lord gives you knowledge & wisdom.

• Watch what you say. Protecting your mouth helps you protect your own life because you don’t know how people react to what you’ll say.

• Don’t be lazy (again this is seen multiple times in proverbs) the slacker/procrastinator wants to do things but yet doesn’t do anything. But the one that is attentive to everything they do they are satisfied in what they have.

• many pretend to be rich but aren’t. While others make it seem like they’re poor but they’re actually rich.

• Act with knowledge, uphold yourself to act correctly. A fool will show their stupidity in how they act.

• You need to find friends who are wise. Because if they’re wise then you’ll also become wise.

It’s the saying “ tell me who your friends are and I’ll tell you who you are”

• A good man will leave riches to their grandchildren (saving money, etc)

• If you love your child you will discipline them.

• Build your house on the Lord.

• We may think we know what’s right in the way we do things but we really don’t, only Gods way is correct.

• don’t be quick to anger, they are foolish.

• there is riches/profit in the hard work you do. But many only talk about working hard and it only leads to poverty

• don’t be envious/jealous. This affects your heart & body. A calm heart gives you life/energy.

• speak with calmness to avoid angering someone.

• God sees everything. Good & evil.

• it is better to have a couple of things & fear the Lord, than to have a lot of things and be in uncertainty & confusion.

• in everything you do give it to God. So that he can make your plans happen.

• what is in your heart is what will come out of your mouth.

• don’t gossip about one another. This separates friendships/relationships.

I recommend you read the Bible on your own time & gain knowledge.

... Read moreHey everyone! Diving into the Book of Proverbs is one of my favorite ways to get daily wisdom. It's not just about reading; it's about letting those ancient words speak directly to your life today. For my study on Proverbs 13-16, I really focused on making it personal and practical. You know how those open Bible pages look with all the highlighted verses and handwritten notes? That's exactly how I approach it! If you're wondering how to make your notebook bible study notes more engaging, try a simple bible study color code! I love using different colors for promises, commands, warnings, and wisdom. It makes everything pop and helps me remember key takeaways. Sometimes I even add little things to draw in bible margins to visualize a concept. It's a great way to personalize your bible notes and make them truly 'yours.' One huge theme that stood out in Proverbs 13-16 was the power of our words and managing anger. The original notes mentioned 'watching what you say' and 'don't be quick to anger.' It's incredible how a 'soft answer turns away wrath' (Proverbs 15:1). I’ve found that being mindful of my tone and choosing my words carefully, rather than reacting impulsively, can completely change the outcome of a conversation. It's about 'speaking with calmness' as my handwritten notes on Proverbs 15-16 remind me. It takes practice, but it protects relationships and brings peace. My highlighted verses on this remind me that 'whoever guards his mouth preserves his life' (Proverbs 13:3). Another big takeaway was about diligence versus laziness. The verses on 'profit in hard work' really resonated with me. Proverbs 16:26 says, 'A worker's appetite works for him; his mouth urges him on.' This isn't just about physical hunger; it's about that inner drive and desire to accomplish something. When we commit our plans to God, as Proverbs 16:3 teaches, our work has purpose. I've learned that true satisfaction doesn't come from pretending to be rich (Proverbs 13:7) but from the effort we put in and trusting God with the results. And let's talk about friends! The advice to 'find friends who are wise' (Proverbs 13:20) is timeless. It’s so true that 'tell me who your friends are and I’ll tell you who you are.' Choosing friends who encourage you in wisdom and God's ways makes such a difference. My bible notes often include reflections on how my friendships impact my walk with God. The idea of disciplining children out of love (Proverbs 13:24) also caught my eye, highlighting God's loving discipline in our own lives. And the powerful truth that 'we may think we know what’s right... but only God’s way is correct' (Proverbs 14:12) is a humble reminder to always seek His guidance. It's about building our house on the Lord, not on our own understanding. These chapters from Proverbs 13-16 are truly a treasure trove of wisdom for daily living. Whether you're making cute bible study notes or just quietly reflecting, spending even 5-10 minutes with God in His Word can transform your perspective. I hope my little dive into these verses encourages you to open your own Bible and discover the incredible guidance waiting for you!
