... Read moreOh, Italia! My summer trip through Rome, Florence, and Taormina, Sicily, was truly a dream. While my photos capture some of the magic, there's so much more to share for anyone planning their own Italian adventure! First, let's talk about the vibe. That 'European aesthetic' is real, and it's everywhere. I remember wandering through a narrow alleyway in Taormina, discovering a hidden courtyard adorned with vibrant pink bougainvillea, just like in my pictures. It’s those unexpected moments that make the trip so special. Don't be afraid to get lost – that's often when you find the most charming spots, like a quiet patio dining area perfect for an afternoon aperitivo. In Rome, the history truly comes alive. Seeing the ancient Roman ruins illuminated at night was absolutely breathtaking, a completely different experience from visiting during the day. And those grand church interiors? They're even more awe-inspiring in person. My best advice for Rome is comfortable shoes! You'll be doing a lot of walking, which is the best way to stumble upon incredible sights and taste authentic rigatoni with meatballs from a local trattoria. Florence captivated me with its artistic soul. The intricate marble facade of the Duomo is something you could stare at for hours. I loved exploring the city's charming streets, which often led to beautiful plazas or artisanal shops. For a true Florentine experience, try to find a cooking class – learning to make fresh pasta was a highlight! And then there was Taormina, Sicily. This coastal gem was just pure bliss. The crystal-clear turquoise water you see in my photos is even more inviting in person. We took a boat trip to explore some of the sea caves – an absolute must-do! The town itself, with its iconic bell tower framed by oleander flowers, offers stunning views at every turn. Don't miss out on grabbing a granita while strolling through its picturesque streets. The scent of bougainvillea is almost constant here! A few general tips for an 'Italian summer': Food: Beyond the incredible pasta, make sure to indulge in gelato daily and try local specialties in each region. Sicilian pastries are divine! Getting Around: While we mostly walked, seeing those charming white scooters made me wish I was brave enough to zip around like a local! Public transport is good in bigger cities, but walking is key for soaking in the atmosphere. Embrace the Pace: Italians truly know how to enjoy life. Don't rush. Take time for long meals, afternoon siestas, and evening passeggiatas (strolls). It's all part of the unforgettable Italian summer experience.
