Oita Prefecture Kunisaki Town Tsurukawa ⛩️ Kotoshiro Lord Shrine ① [Shrine of Ise close to the sea]
Kotoshiro Shrine stands in a place overlooking the sea of Tsurukawa, Kunisaki 🌅
Its history goes back to the Muromachi period, the first year of Entoku (1489).
At that time, when the lord of Iizuka-jo Castle, Jibu Shosuke Chikamune TAHARA, fell ill, his vassal Sadaaki KIBE visited Ise Daijingu Shrine on his behalf.
The disease eventually healed, and out of gratitude, he built a shrine on the mountain of Jonan and named it Iseyama. ⛩
This shrine, which was relocated to its current location in the Meiji era and worships Amaterasu Omikami and Ameno Nakanushi, still watches over people quietly in the clear sea breeze 🌤
In the precincts, there is a large guardian dog dedicated from Naniwa (Osaka).
Along with the scent of the tide, it makes me feel the flow of time.

「国東で神社を巡りたい」「事代主って何の神様？」と気になって、鶴川の事代主神社を訪ねました。海のそばに立つ鳥居をくぐると、まず潮の香りと空の広さが印象的で、“海と寄り添う”という言葉がしっくりきます。晴れた日は青空と緑に社殿が映えて、写真も撮りやすい雰囲気でした。 事代主（ことしろぬし）といえば、一般的には恵比寿さまと同一視されたり、商売繁盛・福の神として語られることが多い神様です（地域や神社によってお祀りのされ方はさまざま）。ここは伊勢信仰の名残を感じる成り立ちもあり、参拝していると“お願いごと”というより、日々の無事をそっと整える場所という印象でした。海風の音に混じって木々が揺れる音がして、自然と呼吸が深くなります。 境内でぜひ見てほしいのが、年代を感じる石造りの狛犬。苔むした質感がかっこよくて、長い時間この場所を見守ってきたんだな…と立ち止まってしまいました。社殿の前にはしめ縄と紙垂がきれいに掛けられていて、厳かなのにどこか温かい空気があります。中をのぞけるタイミングなら、提灯や装飾が見えて少し華やかさもありました。 周辺は港町らしい景色も魅力で、防波堤やテトラポッド、カモメが並ぶ岸壁など、“国東の海”をまとめて味わえるのがうれしいところ。神社だけで終わらせず、参拝の前後に海沿いを少し歩くと、旅の満足度が上がります。カーブした海岸道路や水路の景色もあって、のんびり散策派に向いていました。 個人的な参拝のコツは、朝〜日中の明るい時間に行くこと。青空の日は鳥居・社殿・海のコントラストがきれいで、「国東 神社」で探して来た人が期待する“景色の良さ”をしっかり回収できます。静かな場所だからこそ、短時間でも気持ちが切り替わる—そんな国東の一社でした。
