How I got SLEEP during the newborn stage!!!

This is such a simple post and i genuinely wish it was this easy for all my mamas out there 😭🤍

SWADDLES AND WEIGHTED SLEEP SACKS!!! i definitely helped my baby realize the difference of naps and bedtime. i would swaddle her for all her naps! The swaddles i would use are the Swaddleme brand. she would nap for about 1-2 hours.

for the weighted sleep sack, we used Dreamland! once we put on the weighted swaddle sleep sack, she immediately knew what time it was! we didn’t have any issues with the sleep sack. she would also be ready for bed around 7-8 pm!! we don’t have an entire routine to help her sleep. we do have a bath time routine, which is every 2-3 days. don’t get me wrong, we had some nights where a bath would DEFINITELY HELP. but for the most part, the weighted sleep sacks did the job!

we still use the sleep sack till this day (ofc in a bigger size) and she doesn’t need to be swaddled either. this has helped her become super independent when it’s time for naps/ bedtime! she’s able to sooth herself to sleep! and this is exactly what i wanted personally. that doesn’t mean i don’t cuddle her to bed sometimes and it doesn’t mean i don’t cosleep with her either. (because i totally do these things lol) but i wanted to start sooner so i didn’t have to break a bad habit later. my girl now sleeps 11-12 hours every single night.

ANOTHER THING I DID THAT YOU DONT HAVE TO DO: every nap/ bedtime was in her bassinet/ crib. so she got used to sleeping in her own space. i also wanted her to be able to sleep without me. at first, every nap was in mamas arms. i had to stop that because she only slept in her caregivers arms when she was at daycare. and i didn’t want them to HAVE to deal with her being fussy if she wasn’t in arms! (i worked in a daycare so i understand how stressful it can be)

... Read moreNavigating the newborn stage can be overwhelming, especially when it comes to sleep. Many parents struggle to get their babies to sleep through the night. One effective approach includes using swaddles and weighted sleep sacks, which can create a reassuring and cozy environment for your baby. The SwaddleMe brand is popular for providing comfort during naps, while weighted sleep sacks like the Dreamland Swaddle have been praised for helping babies recognize bedtime cues. By getting your baby accustomed to a consistent sleep space, such as a crib or bassinet, you help them learn to soothe themselves and develop healthy sleep habits. Incorporating a gentle bath routine every few days can also signal bedtime, leading to a more relaxed atmosphere for your baby. Additionally, it's essential to encourage independent sleep, as many babies initially prefer to fall asleep in their caregiver's arms. Gradually transitioning your baby to sleep in their own space can ease the adjustment and reduce fussiness when they are away from home. Remember, every baby is unique; what works for one might not work for another. However, consistent, loving practices can go a long way in achieving restful nights for you and your newborn.
