MOM HOT TAKE: we want the crying to stop too.
as a mom and someone who used to fly without kids. i completely get it. it’s frustrating when babies are crying, when toddlers are freaking out, but that’s what headphones and minding your business is for.
yes there are parents who DO NOT CARE and let their kids just scream it out. although there ARE some moms who do everything and anything to calm their babies down.
so let me be honest here:
✅moms are the most stressed person on the plane. and even BEFORE the plane. that crying isn’t just bothering you, it’s drilling into her nerves nonstop.
✅babies can’t be reasoned with. a mom can’t explain turbulence, altitude pressure, or tiredness to a baby. she’s already trying every trick in the book: bottles, pacifiers, rocking, snacks, walking the aisle.
✅crying is communication. it doesn’t mean the parent is careless: it means the baby’s ears hurt, they’re overstimulated, or they’re just exhausted. you glaring doesn’t magically fix that. and if it bothers you that much, as a mom how you can help.
✅parents don’t get an “off switch.” unlike annoyed passengers, moms can’t pop in headphones, sip a drink, or close their eyes. she’s stuck soothing until it passes. and YES it’s the entire flight sometimes.
✅shame doesn’t help. glares and sighs only add pressure, which makes it harder for moms to stay calm and soothe their child effectively. trust me, we genuinely feel bad.
✅everyone benefits if you show grace. a smile, an offer to help grab something from the overhead bin, or even just not staring actually makes the situation easier for everyone on board.
