how I earned straight A’s as a woman in STEM :) !!
As a STEM student life can get so busy!!! Here are some ways that I balanced school & life to ensure higher grades 🤭
🏃♀️: Maintaining my physical health!! Whether that be running, getting my steps in, or taking my daily medicine/vitamins, staying on top of your health is ESSENTIAL to better grades. If you don’t feel well, you won’t perform as you may have hoped.
👯♀️: Spending time with family & friends. A couple of hours with loved ones never hurts❣️. I chat with my friends on a regular basis, and really try to carve out time for birthdays, holidays, and hangouts— even if that’s just a short meal together.
🏫: Lots of time studying on campus! I like to call my campus my second home :) I nearly never bring my school work home with me, arriving to campus around 7:45 am and leaving between 4:30-6:30 pm.
⚽️: I love, love, LOVE my job!!! I am a soccer coach for pre-schoolers and could not be happier in my position. It really distracts me from my school work in the best way, and is ultimately so rewarding to see the progress the children make.
🌸: LAST ONE!!! Always make time to relax!!!! Whether that be a hike, a face mask, or even flower picking (😂🤭), relaxation is highly important. If you don’t carve out time for yourself, your grades may start slipping due to stress.
... Read moreIn today's world, women in STEM fields face unique challenges, and maintaining high academic performance requires a holistic approach. One crucial element is physical health; regular exercise, adequate sleep, and a balanced diet are essential for cognitive function and stress management. Engaging in physical activities, such as running or playing sports, can enhance concentration levels and energy.
Social interactions also play a significant role in achieving academic excellence. Building a supportive friend circle and spending quality time with loved ones can alleviate stress and improve overall happiness. It’s important to balance work and personal life, as being deeply rooted in the social fabric can foster resilience during challenging times.
Moreover, creating a study environment that feels welcoming can greatly influence productivity. Establishing a routine for study hours at places like campus libraries can signal to your brain when it’s time to focus, making it easier to absorb information. It also helps to keep work separate from home to maintain a healthy mental state.
Juggling academic responsibilities with part-time jobs or extracurricular activities often contributes positively to one’s growth. For instance, coaching young children in sports places you in a mentoring position that enhances leadership skills while also providing joy and satisfaction. This diversion from academics can rejuvenate the mind and spirit.
Finally, embracing self-care practices is non-negotiable; taking time for yourself through activities like hiking, yoga, or simply enjoying nature can help combat stress and improve productivity. Balancing work with relaxation can create a productive cycle, ultimately leading to sustained academic success.
