Chuen, Lahun, Ik

As the gears in the cosmic calendar turn and churn the fabric of time and space, we move into the Chuen Day sign . As the universe’s mechanism causes our Sun 🌞 to rise we transition into the 10th day (Lahun) of this Ik Trecena (13 day cycle).

In Maya cosmology, the day sign Chuen, or B’atz’ to the K’iche, symbolizes creativity, time, and the essence of life. Celebrated by ancient Maya and still honored today, Chuen embodies the energy of the cosmic weaver, binding moments and lives together with Love and care.

Chuen’s influence extends into the arts, inspiring painters, sculptors, musicians, and storytellers. In Mayan beliefs, this creative spark is Chuen’s gift, weaving beauty and form through his “threads of life,” represented in the umbilical cord connecting mother to child. This sacred connection mirrors the 260 days of the Tzolk'in calendar, a cycle reflecting human gestation and mirrored by the 260 seeds in the sacred tz’ite divination tool, tying cosmic and human realms.

Associated with the East along with the color red and symbolized by the monkey, 🐒 Chuen embodies agility, creativity, and connection to the divine. These days are ideal for life transitions, initiations, and marriages, seen as woven under Chuen’s watchful guidance. Chuen’s essence represents the interconnectedness of time, art, and life—each life and moment an interwoven part of the cosmic fabric, crafted by the divine artist’s hands.

Lahun/ Lajuj

The Number Ten

Lahun, the number ten in the Tzolk’in calendar, signifies unity and the strength found in human collaboration. It highlights the importance of working together to build relationships that form the foundation of families and communities. This number carries a strong societal influence, emphasizing interconnectedness and shared purpose.

Associated with the God of Death, Lahun also reflects the natural cycles of life—moments of progress and joy balanced by periods of loss and challenge. Rather than labeling these experiences as positive or negative, Lahun teaches acceptance and balance, urging us to navigate life’s fluctuations with grace and stability.

Those born on a Ten day are often seen as grounded and composed, but they carry an inner vulnerability that can leave them feeling exposed. Building resilience and emotional strength allows them to maintain their stability while fully engaging with the world around them. Lahun’s energy serves as a guide to finding harmony within life’s inevitable contrasts.

Guardian of the 10th Day

Tezcatlipoca, governs the Tenth Day of the Trecena and embodies the chaotic forces that challenge order and light, often symbolized by Quetzalcoatl. Recognized as both a creator and destroyer, he is said to have ruled a previous world, reflecting his ability to shape and dismantle existence.

Depicted with an obsidian mirror on his forehead, Tezcatlipoca divides himself into four, aligning with the four cardinal directions and asserting his influence across the universe. Though often associated with disruption, he is also revered as a healer, with traditions dedicated to his restorative power still practiced among Nahuatl-speaking peoples. In Maya cosmology, Tezcatlipoca is thought to parallel the deity Kauil, further linking him to cycles of destruction and rebirth. His role in the Trecena highlights the profound interplay between chaos and balance, reminding us of the transformative power inherent in the cosmos.

The cosmic date is, Lahun (10), the day sign is Chuen of this Ik trecena, or in Gregorian terms, April 8, 2025.

Again I ask, what would the OG Daykeepers advise today as the energies of the Ik trecena intertwines the energies of the Chuen Day sign and the number Lahun (10) tone?

Today calls us to honor the sacred breath of life and the divine spark that animates all creation. Under the guidance of the Ik trecena, we are reminded that words carry spirit, that intention breathes life into form, and that the unseen currents of wind and inspiration shape the visible world. With Chuen, the day of the master artisan and playful innovator, we’re invited to express our essence boldly, to create with joy, and to approach life like a dance—full of rhythm, laughter, and sacred mischief. Lahun, the tone of community and interconnection, asks us to recognize how our creativity and choices ripple outward, touching family, friends, and the spirit of the collective.

Our ancestors would say this is a day to speak beauty into being, to create something not only with your hands but with your heart, your voice, and your presence. It’s an ideal time to initiate a union, whether romantic, artistic, or communal, because the energies today bless beginnings with harmony, endurance, and divine favor. But they would also remind us that commitment is sacred work—that the thread of love (as they saw it, a life-force cord) must be tended with patience, respect, and shared purpose.

Today, plant the seeds of joy and partnership. Use your words to uplift, your actions to inspire, and your creativity to serve something greater than yourself. The wind carries your prayers farther than you know, and the gods are listening.

Reflection of the Day

Today’s energy moves me to reflect on what I’ve been nurturing—and how that nurturing is a creative act in itself. With the guidance of Lahun tone, Chuen day, and the Ik trecena, I’m reminded that relationships are not just built—they are shaped with breath, intention, and love. The way we show up matters. What we tend to with care doesn’t just survive—it begins to trust, soften, and open.

Lately, I’ve been caring for four kittens that I helped rescue from a warehouse. I couldn’t bear the thought of them being euthanized at the shelter, so I took them in. At first, they were cautious and beginning to be feral. They only came close when I had food. I realized that if I wanted them to feel safe beyond just survival, I had to offer more of myself—my presence, my gentleness, my time. I began spending more quality time with them, letting them know that love and safety go hand in hand. It worked. They became soft, cuddly, and affectionate. My wife jokes that they’re “needy” now because they always want to be held or nap in our laps—but what she didn’t see was the work behind that transformation. That desire to be close isn’t weakness—it’s trust.

We’ve decided to keep two. My boy, Balam K’iche Bastet Sekhmet (Balstet for short 😅) runs to me when he’s scared—not to a hiding place, but to my side. That’s everything to me. It tells me he knows I’m his protector. My wife fell in love with the only girl of the 4, and now Lucy Nayeli curls into her like she’s always belonged there. The last boy, Travis—our little Travieso—is still waiting for a home, but I’ve no doubt the right one will come. The other boy was adopted and they named him Pixie like a fae. He's now living his best life.

Today reminds me that our creations aren’t always paintings or music—they’re found in how we care, how we guide, how we love. The breath of Ik flows through these moments. Chuen reminds me that creation can look like play, like bonding, like safety earned through patience. And Lahun teaches me that my love doesn’t just affect me—it reaches into the lives of those around me, even the smallest beings.

People often ask what separates us from animals. But I’m starting to see it differently. Love doesn’t separate us. Love connects us. And that, to me, is sacred.
