When the Useless Teammate Still Gets Out 💀 | DBD
As a Dead by Daylight survivor, there’s a universal experience almost every player can relate to: the infamous ‘useless teammate.’ You know the one—the player who spends the entire match hiding in a locker, urban evading across the map, or perhaps trying to self-care in a corner while everyone else is getting hooked. It's truly a unique kind of despair when you’re busting gens, making intricate loops, and going for daring saves, only to see the player who contributed seemingly nothing somehow slip through the exit gates or find the hatch. It makes you wonder, how do they even do it? I’ve been in countless matches where I feel like I’m carrying the entire team on my back. Just yesterday, I was playing as Mikaela on Midwich. Two teammates were on hooks almost simultaneously, and the third was busy crouch-walking in the farthest corner of the map. I managed to save one, heal up, get a gen to 99%, and then got caught by the killer. As I watched from the hook, resigned to my fate, I saw the 'stealth' survivor, who hadn't touched a gen all game, find the hatch right under the killer's nose and escape. My jaw literally dropped. It's both infuriating and, in a twisted way, almost comedic. So, what defines a 'useless' teammate? It's not always about skill, but often about effort and objective play. It could be someone who: never touches a generator, consistently makes unsafe unhooks, farms their teammates off the hook, or hides all game while the rest of the team gets sacrificed. Sometimes it’s a new player still learning the ropes, which is understandable. But other times, it feels like a deliberate choice to avoid interaction, leaving you to wonder if they even want to play the game. Dealing with these situations can be tough for team morale. My best advice? Try to focus on your own objectives and personal performance. Do your gens, practice your loops, and aim for those safe unhooks. If a teammate is clearly not contributing, don't feel obligated to sacrifice yourself for them. Sometimes, it's about accepting that some games are simply unwinnable, no matter how hard you play. You can still earn plenty of Bloodpoints and have fun with your chases, even if the outcome isn't ideal. And hey, at least it makes for some memorable (and often hilarious) stories to share with your friends later!
