Sunday Camino Training
Sunday longer walk heavier pack #caminodesantiago #womenover50 #womenwhohike #caminocoastalroute #travel
Training for the Camino de Santiago requires consistent preparation, and one of the best ways to build endurance is through longer walks with a loaded backpack. For my Sunday Camino training, I focus on walking about 6 miles while carrying a 10-pound pack. This replicates the heavier gear load you'll likely have on the trail, helping your body adjust to the added weight and build strength gradually. Wearing your actual hiking boots and using your full pack setup during training walks can prevent surprises during the pilgrimage. On my recent Sunday sessions, I've noticed an improvement not only in my stamina but also in my ability to manage pacing and foot care, which are critical for multi-day hiking. For women over 50 like me, these training walks are especially valuable to prepare muscles, joints, and endurance safely. Incorporating rest days and stretching into the routine helps avoid injuries while building resilience. Also, practicing hydration and nutrition strategies during these walks means you’ll be more prepared for the distinct demands of the Camino Coastal Route or other Camino paths. Beyond physical readiness, these training hikes offer mental preparation as well. Spending focused time outdoors while carrying your pack allows reflection on your upcoming journey and builds confidence. If you’re planning a Camino pilgrimage or any long-distance trek, consistent Sunday walks with a heavier pack can make a significant difference in your overall experience and enjoyment.
