In all seriousness, this issue is much bigger than one restaurant. It's something many of us in Singapore's nature community have been witnessing and speaking up about for years.

If this message resonates with you, please help share this video. And if you have friends on Xiaohongshu (小红书) or Douyin (抖音), I'd really appreciate it if someone could repost or translate it there too. The hope is simply to encourage greater awareness of proper etiquette and respect for our environment.

Let's keep our shores thriving, so that the next generation inherits living ecosystems to explore and appreciate - not just stories of what used to be here 🌊

... Read moreAs someone deeply involved in coastal conservation, I’ve witnessed firsthand how the surge in viral foraging trends like 赶海 on social media platforms such as Xiaohongshu and Douyin has unintentionally hurt marine ecosystems in Singapore. Unlike traditional foragers such as the Orang Laut, who only harvest what they need with respect and purpose, many modern participants treat the shore as a source of entertainment, often collecting excessive amounts of marine creatures without considering the ecological consequences. This trend not only threatens biodiversity but also risks depleting fragile populations of marine species, some of which are protected by law. Singapore’s limited coastline and marine habitats cannot sustain heavy, unchecked harvesting, especially without regulations like seasonal closures or catch quotas. Over time, this leads to a decline in species diversity and abundance, diminishing the natural wonder and balance of our coastal ecosystems. Education plays a crucial role in addressing this issue. In my experience engaging with foragers on the shores, a respectful and informative approach often encourages them to release animals back into their habitats and adopt more sustainable practices. Unfortunately, there are moments when some individuals, including children, display a lack of empathy and disregard for environmental impact, which highlights the urgency of fostering environmental values early on. Together, community groups and nature enthusiasts are stepping up patrols and offering guided walks to explain the importance of marine life preservation. This grassroots effort is essential because conserving Singapore’s shores is not just the duty of authorities but a shared responsibility. By spreading awareness and encouraging responsible foraging behavior, we ensure that future generations inherit thriving ecosystems to explore and cherish—not just stories of what once was. If you encounter someone gathering marine life excessively or without respect for local guidelines, do consider engaging them kindly and encouraging them to protect our shores. Every small action helps build a collective culture of environmental stewardship that benefits all. Let’s keep our shorelines vibrant and full of life for those who come after us.

"4 years ago, I was told I had Hyperthyroidism. I treated it like a common cold and ignored my medication. It took a trip to the Sengkang A&E and fainting in a supermarket to realize that this 'invisible' illness is a silent battle. 🇸🇬 In Singapore, there is so little awareness a

THE BEST SPANISH RESTAURANT! ONLY IN THE EAST
[ Next Door Spanish Cafe ] 𝗕𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗦𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘁! Maybe there aren’t many in the east, but @nextdoorspanishcafe has been a personal comfort pick for a while now, definitely my favourite few! As the name would imply, it’s designed to be a little more casual and approachable.
