I started my summer class today!

on memorial day? weird. i’m taking differential equations online! for context, i’m a mech. engineering major! i had to audit this class since i didn’t have a great professor- this is a SUPER important foundational class for my program, so i figured i’d take it online. having a stress-free summer is fun, but having a solid foundation for your future classes is funner 🥳

... Read moreStarting an online Differential Equations class, especially as a mechanical engineering major, feels like a huge step towards building a solid foundation for my future courses. I totally get why so many of us look for differential equations handwritten notes – sometimes seeing how someone else organizes their thoughts can make all the difference! For me, hitting the ground running meant diving deep into how I'll tackle this beast, and my biggest takeaway so far is the power of good old-fashioned handwritten notes. Why handwritten, you ask, when everything is digital? Well, personally, the act of writing things down helps concepts sink in way better. It’s not just about copying; it’s about processing the information as you write. For a subject like Differential Equations, where you're dealing with general solutions, particular solutions, and tricky initial value problems, this active engagement is crucial. When I write, I naturally break down complex steps, draw diagrams, and use different colors to highlight key formulas or theorems. This makes my notes not just a record, but a personalized Final_StudyGuide that speaks my academic language. One thing I've realized is that simply having notes isn't enough; it's how you take them. For Diff Eq, I'm focusing on structuring my notes in a way that clearly differentiates between the various solution methods. For general solutions, I make sure to write down the overarching formula and then immediately follow it with an example, showing how arbitrary constants come into play. Then, when a problem introduces initial value problems, I add a section demonstrating how to use those initial conditions to find the specific values for those constants, leading to the particular solutions. I’m finding that visualizing the connections between these concepts is key. For instance, when tackling a new type of differential equation, I’ll often sketch out a flow chart in my notes: 'Is it separable? Linear? Exact?' This visual roadmap helps me quickly identify the right approach. And for initial value problems, specifically, I make sure to dedicate space to show the step-by-step process of integrating and then plugging in the initial conditions, often circling the final particular solution in a bright color so it stands out. My goal is to make these handwritten notes so clear and comprehensive that they essentially become my own personal textbook, packed with insights that resonate with my learning style. It’s definitely a bit of extra effort, but knowing I’m building such a strong, hands-on foundation for these critical engineering concepts makes it all worth it!

my new summer hobby🎨
when I was younger, I loved to be creative. I remember coloring with my sisters all the time when I was little, art class was always my favorite, and there was always something I would be doodling. As I got older, I slowly started to grow farther away my artsy side. I didn’t realize it for a while.
