Apps I use to help me with crocheting

I have quite a few apps that I use when writing patterns or using while working on a project and I just wanted to share some of them! What apps do you use for crocheting?

Easy Knitty- this one is good for counting stitches! If I need to count stitches for a big project I will use this app. You can change the amount it counts by so I normally have it go by 10 or 5. You can only have 2 projects at a time for free but I don’t use the app often so that’s fine with me.

Canva- I use Canva for all of my editing. I like to have it organized by specific social media apps because I know the sizing will always be consistent. I have projects for lemon8 posts, Instagram posts, TikTok posts, thumbnails, Pinterest posts, and more. I don’t usually pay for canva pro unless there’s a deal going on.

Craftsy- I just got a year free using Craftsy from spinning the wheel on Ribblr so I’m still new to using it but I like how straightforward the videos are. I also want to use the videos for learning new crafts this year so I’m very glad to have gotten this app.

Done!- this app is my go to every day to make sure I finish making patterns, plan content, get my to do lists complete, and reach my monthly goals. I love the way it is set up with your main task and then subtasks that go with it. I can also set the day and time I want it to be complete by. When you’ve completed the task, it will automatically go away. You can still get the task back if needed though. I’ve tried many organization apps to help me keep track of everything in my brain and this app has been the only one I’ve stuck to for a while now.

I can’t remember if I paid anything within the app but if I did, it would’ve been a one time purchase and only a few dollars. I’m not a fan of apps that require you to pay weekly or monthly to use full features but I am willing to pay a few dollars for a one time purchase.

Michaels- I love to have the Michaels app and I also have a rewards account. If you or your spouse are a military member and I believe teachers too, you can get 15% off every purchase even if you’re buying sales items so I definitely recommend having a rewards account with them. I only buy yarn whenever they have a deal as well.

YouTube- of course I’m a big fan of YouTube, I post my own patterns on there and I used YouTube to teach me how to crochet. If I want to learn anything, I will always go there and find a video. I also like to watch other crocheters videos of them talking about project ideas because it can definitely be inspiring for future projects.

Do you use any of these apps? What apps do you use for crocheting?

... Read moreYou know, when I first started crocheting, I felt like I was constantly juggling patterns, stitch counts, and inspiration all in my head. It was overwhelming! That's why I started exploring different apps, not just to do things, but to genuinely help me simplify the process. And let me tell you, the interface of an app makes all the difference in how truly helpful it is. Take Easy Knitty for example. The OCR showed its stitch counter with a 'Count by: 3' option, and that's exactly what makes it so useful. Instead of just a simple +1, being able to customize the increment helps me track complex patterns where I might increase every few stitches or work in multiples. The interface is clean, with a big, clear number and an easy-to-tap button. There’s no clutter, which means I can quickly glance, tap, and get back to my project without losing my place. For big projects, like that rainbow blanket I'm working on, this simple, intuitive interface is a lifesaver when I'm focused on counting hundreds of stitches. Then there's Done!, my absolute favorite for staying organized. The original article mentioned managing patterns and to-do lists, but what truly stands out about its interface is the subtask feature. Imagine you’re writing a crochet pattern: first, draft the instructions, then test it, then photograph, then edit, then publish. Each of these can be a subtask under "New Pattern Release." The app visually nests these, so you can see your progress at a glance. When a task is complete, it *automatically goes away*, which is incredibly satisfying and keeps my dashboard clean. It’s a very visual and responsive interface that makes managing multiple crochet projects or pattern-designing stages feel less like a chore and more like a satisfying progression. Even apps like Canva, which isn't strictly a crochet app, become incredibly helpful due to their user-friendly design interface. When I'm creating a diagram for a pattern or designing a social media post for my latest crochet creation, Canva's drag-and-drop functionality and pre-sized templates are a dream. I don't need to be a graphic designer to make my work look professional, which is a huge help when I'm trying to share my passion. And for learning? Craftsy and YouTube are my go-to's. Both offer video interfaces that are incredibly intuitive. On Craftsy, the lessons are structured, easy to pause, rewind, and rewatch specific techniques. On YouTube, the search function and related video suggestions are goldmines for finding free patterns or learning new stitches. Being able to see someone demonstrate a tricky stitch in slow motion, right on my phone, is far more helpful than struggling with a written diagram alone. It’s direct, visual assistance that a good interface facilitates seamlessly. Even for shopping, the Michaels app's interface for managing rewards and finding deals is super helpful. I can quickly check for coupons or see when my favorite yarn is on sale, saving me money without a complicated navigation process. Ultimately, when searching for any app to aid your crocheting journey, always consider the interface. Does it feel intuitive? Is it visually clear? Does it simplify tasks rather than add complexity? A truly helpful app isn't just about what it *does*, but how it lets you do it. Finding apps with interfaces that feel natural to you will genuinely enhance your crafting experience, making every stitch and project a little bit easier and a lot more enjoyable.
