Something is seriously wrong 🤔
Something is seriously wrong with the way soccer is being played now.
I just watched a goal get scored… the stadium exploded… players celebrating… fans losing their minds…
Then everything stopped.
Two minutes later: “checking VAR.”
Goal gone.
And honestly… I’m not feeling this version of the game anymore.
Soccer was never supposed to feel like a courtroom. It was supposed to be emotion, instinct, chaos, and human moments, good calls, bad calls, controversial calls… ALL of it is what made the sport beautiful.
Now we’re pausing celebrations like we’re watching instant replay reviews in American football.
And I’m going to say it clearly:
I am NOT a fan of this direction.
Let the game breathe.
Let the moment live.
Let soccer be soccer again.
Because right now… it feels like we’re losing the soul of the sport in the name of “perfect accuracy.”
Maybe I’m old school… but I miss when a goal was just a goal.

I’ve seen countless games where a goal was initially celebrated, only to be disallowed after a VAR review for a marginal offside or a handball. These decisions, while aiming for perfect accuracy, often leave fans feeling disconnected. The emotional rollercoaster gets replaced by clinical assessments, and soccer risks becoming more like a courtroom drama than a vibrant sport. From my experience watching both live matches and broadcasts, the human element—the good, the bad, and the controversial calls—is what keeps fans hooked. It’s those moments of uncertainty and passion that make soccer unpredictable and exciting. Furthermore, the FA’s adoption of VAR rules, reflected in the image's "FA VAR" text, shows this trend's global reach. Yet, I wonder if we’re sacrificing too much tradition and soul. Should we embrace technology less rigidly to allow some margin for human error, preserving the spontaneity that makes soccer beloved worldwide? Ultimately, playing or watching soccer used to mean feeling every moment intensely—goals, misses, fouls, and even mistakes shaped the narrative of each game. With VAR’s rigid influence, I feel like the game is losing some of that magic. I’ll keep following the debates, but personally, I hope soccer can find the right balance where technology aids fairness without eroding the spirit of the sport.
