Woke up to 4 out of 7 mason jar herbs sprouting! Not going to lie, I was shocked to see it. My daughter is beyond excited! 💕
This is the real trial and error of homemade/from scratch cooking.. I had to throw my first batch of pizza dough away, and start all over for the pizza I made Friday for dinner. It was a bummer, but I learned what to do next time.
Next time, turned out to be pizza bombs Sunday evening. They aren’t “golden brown,” but my dough turned out perfect after my fail two days prior. You live and learn! They were a big hit with the family! I’ll put the recipe in the comments!
I made homemade tortillas for tacos last night! No where near perfect, and will definitely need to practice making them more. They were super good, nonetheless! I got another stamp of approval from the family so that’s a plus!
I’m wanting to get bulk pantry items to make bulk meals, snacks, everyday household items to cut down on grocery trips. What are some tips, tricks, etc. you do/make? Snack ideas are always welcome, especially toddler ones!
I’ve been loving making things from scratch the past couple of weeks! It’s very rewarding! More homemade, from scratch, DIYs coming soon! ❤️
... Read moreStarting a homestead and making meals from scratch can be a deeply rewarding experience, but it certainly comes with its learning curve. I recently embarked on this journey myself, excited to grow herbs in mason jars like basil, thyme, oregano, and chamomile. Seeing four out of seven herbs sprout felt like a small victory that motivated me to keep experimenting.
One of the biggest challenges I faced was mastering homemade pizza dough. My first batch didn’t turn out as expected, leading me to throw it away and start fresh. Though it felt discouraging at first, I realized that failures are just part of the process. By Sunday, I created my first pizza bombs. While they weren’t perfectly golden brown, the texture was spot on, and everyone in my family loved them. Sharing homemade recipes and kitchen experiments with family not only brings us closer but also makes the experience more enjoyable.
Alongside the pizza bombs, I tried making tortillas from scratch for tacos. They weren’t perfect, but that raw, homemade flavor was satisfying. I plan to continue practicing because homemade tortillas are a staple I want to perfect for my family’s meals.
One way I’ve found to ease the effort of daily cooking is by stocking up on bulk pantry items. Buying staples like flour, dried herbs, grains, and snacks in bulk allows me to prepare larger batches of meals and reduce frequent grocery trips. For fellow parents, toddler-friendly snacks like homemade muffins, veggie dips, or simple baked crackers can be both nutritious and easy to make in bulk.
My journey has taught me that homestead life, homemade meals, and DIY projects require patience and willingness to learn. Each small success, from herb sprouts to family-approved dishes, motivates me to keep going. The key is to embrace trial and error and find joy in the process. If you’re starting your homestead or trying homemade cooking, don’t hesitate to share your tips, recipes, and experiences — it creates a wonderful community of learners and doers!
All you do is make your dough, let it rise, roll it into about an inch or 1.5 inch balls, let those sit for about 5-10 mins. Once they’ve sat, you roll out each ball, I put string cheese and pepperoni in mine, close it up back into a ball, put on a baking sheet with parchment paper, melt butter with herbs and paint on top of pizza bombs, put them in the oven at 375* for 15 minutes or until done. Take them out, and brush more butter/herb mixture on top, and serve. I warmed up our leftover pizza sauce to dip them in. They were so good! Tweak the recipe as you wish! Highly recommend making these!
