Growing up in a multicultural environment has shown me firsthand how identity is shaped far beyond just genetic heritage. Although I have 0% Dominican blood, the vibrant culture, values, and traditions of the Dominican community played a significant role in my upbringing. This experience taught me that cultural identity is much more about the people who influence us and the traditions we embrace than about biology alone. From learning the rich history of the Dominican Republic to enjoying traditional foods like mangú and sancocho, the culture became a vital part of my daily life. Participating in local festivals and family gatherings also deepened my connection to the community, fostering a strong sense of belonging. Despite the genetic disconnect, I proudly identify with the Dominican way of life and appreciate how culture can unite us beyond bloodlines. This journey has also illuminated the beauty of embracing multiple heritages, including my Colombian roots. It has enriched my worldview and allowed me to celebrate a diverse blend of traditions.
