Bedtime Routines
Mountain gorillas take their sleep routine very well. Every night and sometimes during the day, they build a brand new nest in around 5 minutes! Using branches, twigs, and leaves, they weave together a cozy, circular bed where they’ll sleep for up to 12 hours.
Typically, mountain gorillas build nests one the ground due to their size, but younger gorillas may craft elevated bunks in trees as practice. The sweetest part? Baby gorillas don’t have to build their own, because they cuddle up in mom’s until age three or four, or until a new sibling is born.
