My Nose 4 Years Later…

Hey guys! So, I’m sharing this just in case anyone else is thinking about getting a nose job—I got one a few years ago, and honestly, it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made! But before I dive in, I just want to say I’m *not* telling anyone to go out and get plastic surgery. This was something I did for *me* because I’d been insecure about my nose since eighth grade, and after thinking about it for forever, I finally decided to go for it.

For me, the things that always bothered me about my nose were that I felt like it didn’t really fit my face—it was pretty low, and I wanted more definition in my nostrils. So after doing my research, I decided a septo-rhinoplasty was the right move. The total cost was $10.5k, and I paid for it all on my own, which made me feel even more proud of the decision.

I had my surgery in Philly, and my surgeon was *amazing*. He totally understood what I wanted—a natural but more refined look. Before surgery, I was super nervous (needles are *not* my thing), but once they gave me anxiety meds, I felt surprisingly calm. I even remember laughing as they wheeled me into the operating room—like, who does that? The surgery itself went smoothly, and when I woke up, I had cold compresses over my eyes and felt *so* relieved that it was over.

Recovery wasn’t too bad. I spent most of the time with my head elevated on a mountain of pillows to help with the swelling. I had everything ready—Vaseline, humidifier, throat spray, you name it. Breathing was tough for the first few days, but it wasn’t painful—just uncomfortable. When it was time to get my cast off, I was a mix of nervous and excited. But the moment I saw my new nose, even with the swelling, I *loved* it. The slope I always wanted was there, and it fit my face so much better. It took a while for the swelling to go down completely, but even early on, I could tell it was exactly what I had hoped for.

Fast-forward to August, and I noticed a small bump on the bridge of my nose. At first, I wasn’t sure if it was just swelling or bone, so I reached out to my doctor. He told me it might just be lingering swelling and advised me to wait and see if it went away, but to let him know if it didn’t.

By January, the bump was still there, so I texted my doctor to let him know. We decided I’d come in to have it checked, and it turned out to be a small bit of bone on the bridge of my nose. We made an appointment for me to come in and have it shaved down, which was scheduled for March.

In March, I drove six hours to get the bump shaved down. The procedure was super quick and, while painless, I could *literally* hear my bone being shaved down, which was definitely a weird experience! Despite the uncomfortable sound, I was just thankful to have the issue fixed, and recovery from this second procedure was super easy.

Now, a few years later, I’m still so happy I did it. The whole journey, even with the little bump situation, was completely worth it. It gave me a huge confidence boost, and I honestly feel more like *myself* now. If anyone is thinking about doing something like this for *you*, I say trust your gut! And if you have any questions about the process or my experience, feel free to ask—I’m totally open about it!

... Read moreHey everyone! Following up on my journey, I wanted to dive a bit deeper into some things I learned that might help if you're considering a nose job or septo-rhinoplasty. My experience was mostly positive, but there are definitely aspects to prepare for and understand. First off, let's talk about septoplasty. While my procedure was a septo-rhinoplasty (combining cosmetic changes with functional improvements), a septoplasty alone is often done to correct a deviated septum. This means if you have trouble breathing through your nose, chronic stuffiness, or frequent nosebleeds, a septoplasty might be necessary for health reasons, not just aesthetics. It helps straighten the wall between your nostrils, improving airflow. It's truly amazing how addressing a functional issue can make such a difference in daily life, alongside any cosmetic tweaks. Understanding when is septoplasty necessary involves recognizing these functional issues that go beyond simply wanting a different look. One of the biggest concerns during recovery is definitely sleeping after nose surgery. I mentioned keeping my head elevated, and I can't stress this enough! I used a wedge pillow and stacked a few regular pillows on top to create a comfortable incline. This isn't just about comfort; it significantly helps reduce swelling and bruising. For the first week or two, you'll likely be a 'back sleeper' if you aren't already. I found it helpful to create a 'nest' of pillows around me to prevent accidentally rolling over in my sleep. Breathing can be tricky with splints and swelling, so a humidifier near your bed is a lifesaver for keeping your nasal passages moist and preventing that dry, uncomfortable feeling inside your nose. Also, avoid anything that puts pressure on your nose – no glasses resting on the bridge for a while! Navigating the healing process also means knowing what to look out for. While thankfully I didn't experience the horror stories you sometimes hear about, like a bad nose job or an infected rhinoplasty, it’s important to be vigilant. Keep an eye on any unusual redness, increasing pain, or discharge. My doctor emphasized clear communication, and that's why I reached out when I noticed the small nose bump on my bridge. It turned out to be a minor bone issue, which was easily fixed with a quick bump shave procedure. This experience taught me that even with the best surgeons, sometimes minor adjustments are needed, and consistent follow-ups are key. Don't hesitate to contact your surgeon if something feels off. This vigilance also extends to being aware of what can go wrong with less invasive procedures, like nose fillers gone wrong or nose botox gone wrong, which can happen if not done by an experienced professional. Before and after my surgery, I spent a lot of time looking at different angles of noses, including the underside of nose and what the inside of the nose looks like post-op, especially to see how the nostrils might change. My goal was a more defined look, and seeing those visual comparisons, like the ones in my before-and-after photos, really helped manage my expectations and appreciate the subtle changes. It's a journey of patience, but seeing the final rhinoplasty results, even years later, makes it all worthwhile. Remember, your doctor is your best resource for any questions or concerns during this transformative process! Every journey is unique, but sharing these insights, I hope, can make yours a little smoother.

I love the results! I wish to have a nose job too when I turn 18, bcs it’s my biggest insecurity and does not fit my face at all. I have a huge bump and it’s pretty long, much bigger than what you had lol.
