Our book club decided to read this book for the month of July as we wanna read romance this time. We have been crying on Kristin Hannah’s books so we thought, why not take a break? Lol

I rate this book 3⭐️ out of 5⭐️. I felt the butterflies and the romance it wants to deliver, however, it feels very familiar? It feels like I knew where the story would end before I even get to the good part. The plot twist also felt anticlimactic for me.

Despite all that, I would still read C.F’s other books to see if it’s worth reading her books (for me) or not 😊💜

Reading 'Our Perfect Storm' by Carley Fortune was a bit of a double-edged sword for me as a romance enthusiast. While I appreciated the tender moments and the slow-building chemistry typical of a friends-to-lovers story, I couldn't help but feel that the plot leaned heavily on familiar tropes, which made the story's outcome somewhat predictable. This is something I’ve noticed in many contemporary romance novels where the anticipation is built up, but the payoff sometimes feels a bit underwhelming. I found the emotional highs sincere, and the slow burn aspect did give that yearning feeling which many romance readers enjoy. The subtle development of the characters’ relationship was a highlight—it felt genuine and relatable. However, the plot twist included felt a bit anticlimactic to me, which impacted my overall excitement for the book. Despite these points, I believe Carley Fortune’s writing has charm and potential. For those who enjoy a gentler, more emotional type of romance without intense drama, this book can be a comforting read. It’s perfect if you want a break from heavier, tear-jerking novels but still crave some butterflies and romance. If you’re like me, sometimes dipping into a book that’s a bit predictable can still offer moments of joy and relaxation, especially when shared in a book club setting where you can discuss your thoughts and feelings about the story’s familiar arcs. I’m curious to explore more of Carley Fortune’s work to see if she experiments with different themes or story structures. For readers who enjoy a summer romance with warmth and a touch of yearning but don’t mind a story that follows a well-tread path, 'Our Perfect Storm' might just be a pleasant choice.
