Like many of us, I've found myself in the throes of an unexpected craving, especially now that I'm 28 weeks pregnant. That initial surprise of suddenly loving Greek yogurt, a food I once avoided, perfectly captures the wild ride of pregnancy cravings! But why do these intense hyperfixations happen during pregnancy? And speaking of nourishing, Greek yogurt, especially 100% WHOLE milk varieties, can be a fantastic choice when you're pregnant. Opting for a WHOLE milk option can also provide healthy fats, which are important for brain development and satiety. It’s comforting to know that my hyper fixation is actually a pretty healthy one! It’s completely normal to experience these strong desires, whether it’s for something sweet, salty, or even sour. I’ve heard friends talk about everything from pickles and ice cream to really specific fruit combinations. The key is to try and incorporate these cravings into a balanced diet. If your hyper fixation is on something less healthy, try to find a healthier alternative or enjoy it in moderation. For example, if you're craving ice cream, maybe try a Greek yogurt parfait with berries and a drizzle of honey! Staying hydrated and listening to your body's cues are also super important. Sometimes what feels like a craving for a specific food might actually be a sign of thirst. As you progress through your pregnancy, especially as you get closer to the third trimester around 28 weeks pregnant, your energy needs increase significantly. High-protein snacks like Greek yogurt can be a lifesaver in keeping those hunger pangs at bay and providing sustained energy.
