WELCOME TO EPISODE 1 OF BECOMING THE BRIDE 👰
Yup, you heard that right… wedding content begins now and we are starting from the very beginning!
Before there was a dress, a seating chart, or even a wedding date... there was one huge decision: finding the perfect wedding venue in Portugal.
We toured five completely different wedding venues, and today I’m taking you through the first three.
💗 Venue 1: Hotel dos Templários – A beautiful hotel in the heart of Tomar, Portugal with gardens and the convenience of on-site accommodations for guests. It checked a lot of practical boxes, but it just wasn’t the romantic, whimsical European vision I had in mind.
💗 Venue 2: Casa da Avó Genoveva – I truly thought this was going to be our venue. The pink exterior, gardens and flowers completely stole my heart, but a few small details made us hesitate. (Wedding planning really does make you notice everything!) The venue hosts just one event per day, making it feel extra intimate.
💗 Venue 3: Quinta de Santo António do Freixo – A stunning estate with multiple ceremony and reception spaces, but it felt much larger than what we needed and didn’t quite capture the whimsical fairytale feeling I had imagined.
So... if you were choosing, which one would you have picked? 👀👇
And trust me, you’ll want to come back for part two. That’s where you’ll see the final two venues... including the one we were convinced was our dream venue before everything went completely sideways!

Planning a wedding in a beautiful destination like Portugal is truly an exciting adventure, but it’s also filled with many decisions that can affect your entire experience. From personal experience, selecting a wedding venue is more than just choosing a pretty location — it’s about finding a place that reflects your vision and feels right for your celebration. When I toured venues like Hotel dos Templários, Casa da Avó Genoveva, and Quinta de Santo António do Freixo, I quickly realized that practical factors such as accessibility, guest accommodations, and the size of the venue matter just as much as the romantic or whimsical atmosphere. For example, the convenience of on-site accommodations at Hotel dos Templários makes hosting guests easier, especially for a destination wedding, but sometimes you might want something that feels more intimate and fairytale-like. Casa da Avó Genoveva captured my heart with its charming pink frontage and lush gardens, creating a truly intimate atmosphere by only hosting one event per day. Small details like these can elevate the overall wedding experience and make your day feel unique and personal. On the other hand, a grand estate such as Quinta de Santo António do Freixo offers multiple ceremony and reception areas, providing flexibility but sometimes feeling larger than needed. Understanding the scale that matches your guest list and vibe can save you from feeling overwhelmed. When I was choosing, I found that visiting venues in person and visualizing your wedding day there — including walk-throughs of both the ceremony and reception spaces — helped me notice things I hadn’t thought about before, like lighting, natural scenery, and flow. It’s also helpful to consider how the venue’s atmosphere aligns with the theme or feeling you have imagined for your special day. Whether you’re dreaming of a whimsical European vibe or a simple, intimate gathering, take time to consider all of these factors as they made a huge difference in my planning journey. And if you’re scouting weddings in Portugal, keep in mind that sometimes the perfect venue might be one you least expect, but that’s part of the exciting story of becoming the bride.
