The level of competition is incredibly high, with seasoned athletes who bring years of expertise and passion to the field. Winning a gold medal in both discus and shot put means not just physical strength but consistent technique improvement and mental focus. Training for these events requires a mix of strength training, technique drills, and endurance work. For discus, perfecting the spin and release angle can dramatically improve distance, while shot put focuses more on explosive power and proper footwork. My routine involved daily sessions focusing on both these aspects, alongside recovery and flexibility exercises. Apart from the physical preparation, the Masters track and field environment provides a supportive community that fosters growth and friendship among competitors. It’s inspiring to see athletes from different backgrounds pushing their limits and uplifting each other. For anyone considering competing at this level, my advice is to stay dedicated to your training, listen to your body to avoid injuries, and keep a positive mindset. The joy of standing on the podium and representing British Columbia makes all the effort worthwhile. To God be the glory, indeed!
