Teachers are HEROES !! Read it all

I’m so tired of people saying, “Teachers have summers off” or “teachers only work 10 months” like this job is somehow easy 🙄

Let’s start by pointing out that CONGRESS is only in session around 140 days a year… yet somehow makes WAY more than teachers. Just food for thought. 👀

Teachers work FAR beyond contract hours. Most districts don’t even pay for breaks, so summer, spring break, and Christmas break are unpaid. The districts that do pay through breaks are simply spreading the same salary over 12 months. That’s not “bonus pay,” that’s budgeting.

And let’s talk leave time:

Teachers do NOT have the privilege of accumulating endless leave. We get a specific amount of personal and sick days, and then we basically pray nobody gets sick, no emergencies happen, and no appointments come up — especially if you have children of your own.

Some districts don’t even offer decent medical benefits, and the ones that do? It’s definitely not some luxurious 5-star insurance plan.

OH… and substitutes!!!

I’m lucky enough to work in a district where subs are paid by the district. But YES — there are districts where if you need a sub, THEY TAKE THE MONEY OUT OF YOUR CHECK TO PAY THEM. Let that sink in for a second.

So not only are you sick (or your child is), using your already limited sick leave… but now you’re also PAYING to miss work. 🥴

And honestly, if teaching is so “easy” and such a breeze…

Why don’t I see Disney-style lines of people begging to become teachers? 🤔

And if handling students is “not that hard,” then why do so many parents complain about teacher workdays and school breaks? I mean… if a teacher can handle 20–37 children that are not theirs all day long, why is it such a struggle dealing with your own 2–6 kids at home for a few days? Genuine question. 👀

Teachers burn out.

Teachers are underpaid.

Teachers are disrespected.

And most of the time, teachers are only appreciated by a small handful of people.

Yes, technically we have summers “off” from school… but MANY teachers work summer jobs just to make ends meet.

Teaching is not for the weak.

That’s why only a few people are truly capable of doing it. 🍎✏️

5/13 Edited to

... Read moreHaving worked alongside many educators, I can personally attest that the perception of teachers enjoying extensive time off is far from reality. Beyond the official school calendar, most teachers invest countless hours preparing lessons, grading, and attending professional development sessions without extra pay. One aspect not often discussed is the emotional toll. Managing classrooms with 20 to 37 students daily requires constant patience, adaptability, and empathy—skills that take a deep personal commitment. It’s exhausting not only physically but mentally, especially when teachers are also juggling their own personal responsibilities. Moreover, I've observed that many teachers need to take on additional jobs during summer or breaks to make ends meet, which contradicts the idea of a relaxed summer. The financial pressures combined with limited medical benefits and sometimes paying out-of-pocket for substitutes add layers of stress. The example comparing teachers to Congress members, who work fewer days but earn significantly more, is a powerful reminder of the discrepancies in societal valuation of professions. Teaching requires resilience, dedication, and a passion for shaping future generations, yet it often lacks corresponding compensation and respect. In conversations with educators, many express feelings of burnout due to these ongoing challenges. It’s clear that teaching is not a job for the faint-hearted, but rather a profession that demands resilience and immense dedication. Recognizing these struggles fosters greater appreciation and support for teachers beyond the classroom walls.
