The Unexpected Pregnancy Struggle Nobody Warned Me About😭😂
I genuinely never thought this would bother me as much as it does😭
I’ve never touched a pregnant woman’s belly without asking, so before becoming pregnant myself, I didn’t fully understand why this was such a big deal.
Now? The second someone reaches for my belly without asking, my entire nervous system is like🚨🚨🚨 😂
I love that people are excited about my baby, and I know most people mean absolutely no harm. But I’m learning that I can appreciate someone’s excitement and still say, “Please don’t touch me.”
Currently working on finding my voice and getting comfortable with boundaries🥹🤰🏾
My husband gets unlimited access, though😂 Everyone else needs to ask the belly department first.
(Lemon always muting smh)

During my pregnancy, I quickly realized that one of the least talked about but most uncomfortable experiences is dealing with strangers or even friends and family who assume they can touch your belly without asking. For me, it wasn’t just about personal space; it felt like a sudden invasion of privacy. I found that my body and emotions were more sensitive than I expected, and any unexpected touch triggered a strong reaction — almost like my nervous system was on high alert. I also noticed how society tends to romanticize pregnancy and often overlooks these small, yet significant, challenges. People mean well and are genuinely excited, but there's an important need to respect boundaries. What helped me was learning to express my feelings clearly and kindly. Saying, “Please ask before touching,” became my new mantra. It wasn’t easy at first, especially because I didn’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings, but I found that most people respected my wishes when I communicated openly. Another surprising aspect was how my husband was the only one with 'unlimited access' to my belly, which made me appreciate the intimacy and trust within our relationship. It became essential to me to maintain control over who could touch me and when. For other moms-to-be feeling overwhelmed by this, my advice is to trust your instincts and remember that setting boundaries is a form of self-care. It doesn’t mean you are ungrateful for the support or excitement; it simply means you’re taking care of your comfort and well-being. Pregnancy is an incredible journey, but it comes with moments that require assertiveness and self-compassion. Embracing these feelings while educating those around you can make a big difference in your pregnancy experience. If you’re on this journey, know that you are not alone in feeling this way. Setting boundaries about your belly is about respecting your body and your space. And if you ever feel guilty or unsure, remember: Your comfort matters just as much as anyone’s excitement.
