Skin Picking 😣😩

#storytime #lemon8contest #lemon8challenge #lemon8diarychallenge As I mentioned in the video, this filter shows my dark spots, and scars due to skin picking. I only do this to my face, and it’s most likely due to anxiety, OCD and lack of confidence. This has been affecting me since childhood and I’m trying to overcome it! I had a similar issue with biting my nails as a teenager, but I have surpassed that habit over 10 years ago! Does anyone suffer from skin picking or something similar? What helps you? I may just need a really good skin care routine, and to stick with it of course.

... Read moreIt's tough when something like skin picking feels like it's taking over, leaving visible marks and impacting your confidence. I completely get that feeling of being stuck in a cycle, especially when anxiety or stress kicks in. It's a journey, not a sprint, and finding what works for you can make all the difference. One of the first steps I've found helpful is really understanding my triggers. What situations, emotions, or even times of day make me more prone to picking? Is it when I'm stressed at work, bored while watching TV, or feeling anxious about something? Once you start noticing these patterns, you can begin to interrupt them. For instance, if looking in a magnifying mirror is a trigger, try limiting mirror time or using softer lighting. Or, if it's boredom, having something else for your hands to do can be a lifesaver. Speaking of keeping hands busy, I've heard amazing things about fidget toys – simple things like a stress ball, a tangle toy, or even knitting can redirect that energy. For me, sometimes just putting a band-aid over a spot I'm tempted to pick creates a physical barrier and gives me a moment to pause. It's not a cure, but it helps break the immediate urge. I also try to create a 'picking-free zone' in my house, like not allowing myself to pick in my bedroom mirror. Learning to cope with the urges themselves is a huge part of this. It’s like a wave – it builds, peaks, and then subsides. Instead of immediately giving in, I try a 'delay and distract' method. Can I wait 5 minutes? 10 minutes? During that time, maybe I'll listen to a favorite song, do some deep breathing, or step away from the mirror. It's about building new pathways for your brain. For some, professional support like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) or Habit Reversal Training (HRT) can be incredibly effective in teaching these coping mechanisms and addressing underlying issues like anxiety or OCD. Then there's the healing aspect, especially for those stubborn scars and dark spots that skin picking leaves behind. A consistent, gentle skincare routine is crucial. I focus on cleansing with a mild, hydrating wash, and then moisturizing with something that helps repair the skin barrier. Ingredients like Niacinamide are fantastic for reducing redness and improving skin tone, while Vitamin C can help with brightening dark spots over time. And, of course, sun protection is non-negotiable to prevent new scars from darkening. For fresh wounds, keeping them clean and covered with healing ointments can make a big difference in how they heal. It’s about being kind to your skin, even when you're frustrated with it. It truly is a battle, as the OCR mentioned, where this habit feels like it's affecting my life. But every small step forward, every time you resist an urge or choose to heal your skin, is a win. We're in this together, and finding what remedies work for you is key to overcoming it.
