How To Crochet a Basket- Part 1

When I started crocheting my small basket, choosing the right material really made a difference. Using macrame cord adds sturdiness, and opting for braided or outdoor macrame cord can make the basket last even longer, especially if you plan to use it for things like plant pots. The base starts with a magic ring where I do 8 single crochet stitches, then gradually increase by adding more single crochets each round. It’s important to tighten the magic ring well to avoid holes in the center. I found that slip stitching to the first stitch and chaining 1 before starting the next round helps keep the edges neat. As you add more rounds, you’ll increase your stitches by following a pattern of 1 single crochet in one stitch, then 2 in the next, repeating as you go around. This gradual increase helps the base stay flat. Keep checking the diameter of your base by measuring against the size you want your basket to be. One thing I discovered is that consistent tension is key — try to keep your stitches tight but not too tight to make crocheting the sides easier later.
