The fundamental rhythm—inhaling, holding, exhaling, and holding each for a count of four—is simple yet deeply effective at signaling your nervous system to shift into a state of relaxation. One powerful aspect of box breathing is its influence on the lymphatic system. Unlike the circulatory system, the lymphatic system doesn’t have a pump like the heart and instead relies on bodily movements and breathing to propel lymph fluid. By performing box breathing, you create gentle pressure changes in your chest cavity, which actively support lymph flow and detoxification. This holistic benefit goes beyond just relaxation—it promotes physical well-being and immune health. To get the most out of this practice, find a quiet and comfortable space. Sit or lie down with good posture to allow maximum lung expansion. Close your eyes if you like, breathe in slowly through your nose for four counts, hold your breath for four counts, exhale smoothly through your mouth for four counts, and hold again for four counts.
