Today I am testing my laser and leather to make sure when I apply this to a finished project that it’s absolutely perfect!
When working with laser engraving on leather, proper testing is crucial to achieve the highest quality results. I always start by selecting a small scrap piece of leather that matches the material I will use in the final project. This allows me to experiment with different laser settings such as power, speed, and frequency without risking the main piece. Adjusting the laser power is important to avoid burning or discoloration of the leather. Too high power can create unwanted scorch marks, while too low power may result in an incomplete engraving. I found that starting with a moderate power level and gradually increasing while observing the effects ensures precision. Speed control is another key factor; slower speeds allow the laser more time to cut or engrave but can sometimes cause excessive burning. Testing different speeds helps balance engraving depth and preserving the leather’s natural texture. I also pay attention to the laser focus and maintain consistent pressure on the leather to avoid uneven engraving. After each test, I inspect the leather closely for any peeling, cracking, or discoloration. If the test looks perfect, I confidently proceed to apply the same settings to the finished project. Throughout this process, patience and thorough testing save time and material in the long run. Proper testing not only improves the aesthetic quality but also the durability of laser-engraved leather products.
