Mobility Aids Are Cute!

I got my first mobility aid, and it doesn’t stop me from being cute as hell! 💕✨🌸🌈🦄 Let’s chat about mobility aids!

This was the right choice for me because I’m getting a hysterectomy in December and this will be a great support tool. I’m going to be able to lock it to help me get up and down from sitting to standing. It will help me feel more independent in the house while recovering. I know there are some things that I want to go do out in public within a few weeks of my surgery where I am going to need to KNOW I’ll have a place to sit down whenever I need. I got it now so I can get used to it before I’m recovering and, I’m really struggling with endometriosis symptoms right now! I’m going to Disney World next week and this is coming with me because I will be on my period for part of the trip and having a place to sit can be huge relief when I’m having bad endo pain. Which brings me to an important point:

Mobility Aids are not a sign of “giving up” or “deconditoning”. People get mobility aids so they can have more stamina and independence. I’m getting this specifically so I can move more.

This is a @novajoyproducts Star 8 Rollator. Before I started this journey I didn’t know the difference between a rollator and a walker! Walkers require you to lift them inbetween each step, which provides maximum stability for those who need it! Rollators are for people who have fine balance but need to take rests. It has a built in seat so you can sit down when you need to (swipe to see me sitting in it)

Feel free to ask me questions in the comments. I would also love to hear about your mobility aid journey!

... Read moreMobility aids are often misunderstood, but they play a vital role in supporting people's independence and quality of life. A rollator, such as the Star 8 Rollator mentioned, is especially designed for those who need occasional rest while maintaining good balance. Unlike traditional walkers that require lifting with each step, rollators come with wheels and a built-in seat, allowing users to move comfortably and rest when needed. This can be a game-changer for individuals recovering from surgery, managing chronic conditions like endometriosis, or experiencing fatigue. Having a mobility aid ready before surgery or a challenging period means users can prepare mentally and physically, making recovery smoother and reducing stress. The ability to lock the rollator and use the seat provides safety and reassurance, whether at home or out in public places like theme parks. Additionally, mobility aids are not signs of weakness or giving up; instead, they are tools that empower users to stay active, confident, and engaged in their communities. Their designs have evolved to be stylish and customizable, helping people express their individuality and even turn their aids into fashion statements, as seen by influencers advocating for mobility aid fashion. For anyone facing mobility challenges or just curious, it's helpful to know the differences between aids and select the right one that suits their needs for balance, stamina, and independence. Sharing stories and connecting with others who use mobility aids fosters support and encourages positive conversations around accessibility and self-care.
