First Week of May

♥️I’m pretty happy with how this past week has gone! I’m in the middle of finals week so preoccupied, but I’ve been trying to be more intentional and stack purchases/push unnecessary things off until I have necessary purchases.

♥️A few things I’m keeping in mind/changing a bit to prep for the likely recession:

-switched to horse pellet liter for my cat. My favorite litter is withdrawing out of the US I believe and I don’t like any of the other ones I’ve tried, so might as well use the cheap one since my cat doesn’t care.

-stocking up on pet food. Petco is doing clearance currently to prep for summer rollouts, so I picked up the wet cat food I could find that had a comparable cost per calorie to foods I can get on sale normally.

-adding in rehydrated dry cat food to our rotation to help balance water intake with affordability.

-using takeout strategically. If I’m eating in somewhere, I’m using it as a study/third place so I don’t feel the need to go to coffee shops. Also using deals like Braum’s Bag of Burgers/Subways Sub of the Day/coupons to get multiple meals out of one purchase.

-going forward, when I run out of household items like laundry detergent, TP, etc, I’m going to look for coupons or to purchase from a local couponer! I don’t believe in stocking up for me personally, but there’s shared benefit to utilizing someone else’s stockpile

♥️What changes are you making?

... Read moreAs we head into May, many individuals are reassessing their spending habits, particularly with the looming possibility of a recession. This month is often a time of reflection and adjustment, especially for those in academic settings facing finals. One effective approach is to focus on smart purchases that prioritize needs over wants. Many are turning to budget-friendly options, such as alternative pet products like horse pellet litter, which remains affordable while ensuring care for beloved pets. It’s also wise to take advantage of sales, especially in stores like Petco, which often runs clearance promotions, providing significant savings on essentials such as pet food. Meal strategies are another important facet. Utilizing takeout not just for sustenance but also as a productive study environment can reduce the instinct to frequently visit coffee shops. Places like Braum’s and Subway feature daily deals that provide multiple meals for one affordable purchase, maximizing value without sacrificing quality. Going forward, cultivating frugal habits, particularly regarding household items, is beneficial. When supplies like detergent run out, seeking local couponing opportunities can yield savings and prevent over-purchasing. Engaging with the community to share budgeting tips and adjustments made during these challenging times can foster a supportive environment. What strategies are you implementing? Moving forward, maintaining an open dialogue about financial wellness can help many navigate these changes effectively.
