During my recent trip through Gifu, I found the Enakyo Service Area (upbound) to be an unexpectedly charming pit stop. Located conveniently after picking up a rental car from Chubu Centrair Airport, it offers travelers a perfect blend of comfort and local culture. The parking area is spacious, allowing for easy stops even during busy hours. What stood out most were the food options—especially the freshly made ramen and the generous portions of karaage rice sets priced reasonably around 1350 yen. The service area also features vending machines and clean toilets, making it a very comfortable and practical location to recharge. One of the highlights is the variety of souvenirs available, offering unique items connected to Gifu’s local specialties, which makes for a memorable gift or memento. Walking around, the area provides nice views over the Enakyo gorge, providing a restful break before continuing deeper into the mountainous regions nearby, such as Gero and Maze Village. I appreciated how easy it was to order meals via ticket machines, streamlining the process even during peak times. If you plan to explore Japan’s expressways, stopping here will enrich your journey not just with convenience but with local flavor and scenic enjoyment, making long drives more enjoyable and refreshing.
