How to see a doctor in another country

First off let me say this but getting sick in another country is my worst nightmare. However if you travel as much as I do it’s bound to happen once or twice. I was actually unfortunate enough to get sick 3 or 4 times in a different country and all three times I needed a prescription. I’m personally someone who wants to figure out the problem and take the correct medication as soon as I start to feel in. I’m not into toughing it out. I want to feel back to normal as soon as I can and find a doctor the quickest way possible. If you’re anything like me you probably also don’t want to miss out on too much and spend your day in the emergency room which is how I found out about Air Doctor. It’s a telehealth service that matches you with doctors in the country your in that speak your language. It came in very handy when I had strep throat in South Africa. It cost me only $50 and she wrote me a prescription that I could fill in any pharmacy. The whole thing cost me $60 total with my antibiotic and I was able to get what I needed in under an hour so I could start my medication as soon as possible. I will say I took it easy for the first 24 hours but after that I was feeling back to normal. Air Doctor is a website and can be used in hundreds of countries for tourists all around the world. While they don’t take insurance it’s very reasonably priced that it doesn’t matter. Plus if you’re like me you don’t mind spending a little bit of money so you don’t have to waste your whole trip and wait to see a doctor when you get home. Oh yeah everyone is a licensed professional obviously and it only works if you have something mild to treat. Please go to the hospital if its life threatening but if you just have food poisoning or an ear infection this is great tip! #travel #traveltips #lemon8partner #Lemon8 #Lemon8Diary #travelwithme2024 #traveltiptuesday #traveltipsandtricks #travelcreator

... Read moreBeyond just finding a doctor, being prepared for any health hiccup while traveling is key to a stress-free trip. I've personally learned that thinking ahead can save a lot of panic when you’re far from home. First off, let's dive a bit deeper into using services like Air Doctor for medical care abroad. When I first used it, I was amazed by how straightforward the Air Doctor app was. You typically register with some basic information, and then you can search for a doctor based on your location and language preference. What I appreciate most is the transparency. I knew upfront that my consultation would be around $50, which is incredibly reassuring when you’re already feeling unwell and navigating a foreign healthcare system. My experience connecting with a doctor was seamless; it felt just like a virtual visit back home. They can assess your symptoms, provide advice, and most importantly, issue local prescriptions that you can fill at almost any pharmacy. This truly makes it easy to see a doctor in another country for non-life-threatening issues like an ear infection or that pesky food poisoning. However, it’s also important to remember that while telemedicine is fantastic for mild illnesses, it's not a substitute for serious emergencies. Always trust your gut: if you feel your condition is severe or life-threatening, head straight to the nearest hospital. Knowing the local emergency number for every country you visit is a must-have travel tip I always share! Another crucial aspect of medical care abroad is travel insurance. While services like Air Doctor are affordable for minor issues, comprehensive travel insurance can be a lifesaver for larger medical emergencies, evacuations, or even unexpected trip cancellations. I always recommend getting a policy that covers medical expenses, as hospital bills in a foreign country can quickly skyrocket. Don’t wait until you’re asking "OMG! Your sick On vacation Now what?!" to realize you’re uninsured. Before you even embark on your adventure, preparing a small medical kit is a game-changer. I always pack essentials like pain relievers, allergy medication, motion sickness tablets, band-aids, antiseptic wipes, and any prescription medications I regularly take, along with their generic names written down. This way, if I need refills, a local pharmacist can easily identify them. Also, a quick online search for reputable pharmacies near your accommodation can save time if you suddenly need something. Finally, preventative measures go a long way. Be mindful of food and water safety, especially in new environments. Stay hydrated, wash your hands frequently, and get enough rest. Taking these small steps can significantly reduce your chances of getting sick in the first place. But if it does happen, remember that with a little preparation and handy tools like Air Doctor telemedicine, you can get back to enjoying your trip much faster.
