Fundings

I contain multitudes at trinity square video is a visual essay on how fundings become unavailable to people of colors, immigrants and refugees. The three channel videos of train and passengers criticize the Israel Palestine conflicts, wars and other atrocities through people’s movements, hands, bodies, gestures on screens. It reminds people of how fragile the ecosystem of essays and essay writings are for students, artists and people who are vulnerable. It is a sensitive critique on the nature of government and funding system. Etc.

... Read moreAs someone deeply interested in the intersection of art and social justice, I found the visual essay 'I Contain Multitudes' profoundly moving and eye-opening. The use of three-channel videos showing trains and passengers serves as a powerful metaphor for movement and migration, while simultaneously addressing the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict. These visuals challenge viewers to consider how geopolitical strife not only causes human suffering but also influences access to resources for marginalized communities. In my experience attending similar exhibitions, the depiction of gestures—such as hands and body movements—offers a universal language that transcends cultural barriers, making the message accessible and compelling. The artist’s critique of funding systems resonated with me deeply, as I’ve witnessed firsthand how artists and students of color, along with immigrants and refugees, struggle to secure financial support. Funding bodies often have opaque criteria influenced by political contexts, which can marginalize creative expressions challenging mainstream narratives. Moreover, this work pushes us to reflect on the fragility of artistic ecosystems. When funding is withdrawn or inaccessible, entire communities lose vital platforms to voice their stories and perspectives. This not only stifles creativity but also erodes social understanding and empathy. Seeing art as a form of resistance against systemic inequalities is empowering, yet it underscores the urgency for more equitable funding models. On a practical note, the piece prompts a broader conversation on how institutions and governments can reimagine funding priorities to better support vulnerable creators. Advocating for transparent, inclusive, and accessible funding opportunities can help repair and sustain these fragile ecosystems. This essay ultimately serves as a call to action—to recognize how art, funding, and politics intertwine, and to support structures that enable diverse voices to flourish.
