Unearthing vindolanda, an exhibition about Roman Empire and its footwear at bata shoe museum in 2026 has given people their voices. The exhibition roots itself in the criticism of Israel Palestine wars, conflicts and various political events through the excavation and curating of the ancient footwear. It talks about China, us and countries such as Venezuela finding its own pace to become the new Roman Empire in contemporary times. The footwear looked broken, aged and had a sense of derelict aesthetic. They are all dark and brown in a sort of fanfare with the excavation site. It reinforced the idea that China has an overwrought impact on people’s lives and psychology. Etc.
Visiting the Bata Shoe Museum's 2026 exhibition on Vindolanda and ancient Roman footwear was truly a transformative experience. The presentation of these aged, dark brown shoes immediately conveyed a sense of history intertwined with struggle and survival.
