I recently spent a wonderful afternoon at Percival Landing Park in Olympia, WA, and it quickly became one of my favorite Pacific Northwest spots! If you're looking for a relaxing day out, especially with family, this waterfront park offers so much more than just pretty views. I wanted to share my personal experience and what makes this park a must-visit. The moment I stepped onto the boardwalk, I was greeted by the fresh scent of the sea and the expansive beauty of Puget Sound. Walking along the waterfront, I watched boats gently sway at the docks and enjoyed the distant views. It’s incredibly peaceful, perfect for a leisurely stroll or a brisk walk to clear your head. There are plenty of benches along the path, making it easy to just sit back, relax, and soak in the tranquil atmosphere. I even saw some people fishing off the pier! For families, the Percival Landing playground is an absolute highlight. My kids, full of energy as always, immediately gravitated towards it. It’s well-maintained and offers a great variety of equipment for different age groups, from swings to climbing structures. They spent ages laughing and playing, which meant I could enjoy a few moments of quiet contemplation by the water. It’s so reassuring to find a park where the kids are genuinely entertained, allowing parents to truly unwind. I'd definitely recommend bringing a picnic to enjoy by the playground or one of the many grassy areas. But here’s something truly unique I discovered that makes this park even more special: a visually striking railway track extending right into the water! It creates an incredible visual, especially when you catch sight of that section of the track over a trestle, painted in vibrant rainbow colors. It’s an unexpected splash of art against the natural backdrop of green and yellow foliage, all under what was, on my visit, a stunning clear blue sky. This colorful trestle makes for an incredible photo opportunity and adds a quirky charm to the waterfront landscape. It’s details like these that make a place unforgettable. Beyond the main attractions, there's always something happening around Percival Landing. I noticed several public art installations scattered along the waterfront, adding to the cultural vibe of the area. Sometimes there are local events or markets, so it’s worth checking the Olympia community calendar before you go. Parking was relatively easy to find nearby, and the park itself is very accessible, which is always a plus. Don't forget to wear comfortable shoes for walking and bring a camera to capture the stunning scenery, from the colorful trestle to the vast Puget Sound. It’s truly an experience that combines natural beauty, family fun, and unique local character, making it a perfect destination in Olympia, WA.
