so much fun being a tourist in my city hehe #dhaka
Traveling through Dhaka truly offers a journey through time and culture, experienced through its remarkable landmarks and the stories they tell. Starting at the iconic Parliament building, designed by the renowned architect Louis Kahn, you can admire its minimalist yet powerful design which reflects Bangladesh’s spirit. A visit to Dhaka University is more than just sightseeing; it’s a walk through the birthplace of many major cultural and political movements in the country. The campus breathes history, and nearby you can see the Liberation War statue symbolizing unity from diverse walks of life fighting for freedom. The Shaheed Minar is a deeply moving monument honoring the courage of students who sacrificed their lives in the 1952 language movement for the recognition of Bangla. Standing in front of it, I felt a profound respect and love for the perseverance and patriotism embedded in Bangladesh’s identity. Lalbagh Fort is another stunning stop that transports you back to the Mughal era. Its aesthetic charm is complemented by historical features like the royal bathhouse, reminiscent of luxury spas. Refreshing with fresh coconut water during the hot day was a perfect way to experience this cultural treasure. Next up, Panam City presents a glimpse of an abandoned historic capital area with its colonial architecture, narrating stories of bygone eras and the passage of time. Culinary experiences in Dhaka are just as rich as its history. Although we couldn't visit Sylhet to try the famed seven-layer tea, indulging in the three-layer tea in Old Dhaka was a fascinating taste adventure. Its distinct layered appearance left me curious — separating tea into layers is a skilled art, and tasting these variations side by side enhances the experience. Overall, touring Dhaka is not just sightseeing but a heartfelt immersion into Bangladesh’s heritage and vibrant present, a journey I highly recommend for those wanting a meaningful travel experience.
