YOUR SIGN TO VISIT MACKINAC ISLAND 🏝️
This is your sign to visit Mackinac Island next summer! Seriously one of my favorite places I’ve ever visited. ❤️
Just some info to know before going:
while there’s no cars allowed on the island, emergency vehicles are active on there.
The best way to get around is bike, but they also have special occasions where they do horseback riding. Otherwise, you can walk or go on a carriage tour. they do allow you to bring bike’s on the ferry to the island… with a fee of course. If you don’t have a bike to bring, you can rent one on the island by the hour.
the island has plenty of awesome shops on it and it’s definitely worth the entrance fee to see the Grand Hotel! I recommend getting fudge while you’re there. It’s incredible!
The ferry to the island runs on a schedule until 9 pm (may differ depending on when you visit) and you can buy your tickets online. However, you don’t have to buy them in advance.. I’d just recommend it since the lines for the ferry are always pretty long!
If I missed any info, please feel free to add it to the comments! ❤️

Wow, reading about Mackinac Island always brings back the best memories! Since my last visit, I've had even more people ask me for detailed tips, especially about how to make the most of their time there. It truly is one of Michigan's crown jewels, and trust me, it's absolutely worth every moment! Beyond just enjoying the car-free charm, planning your activities is key. While biking is definitely my top recommendation for getting around, it's also your ticket to exploring some of the island's most stunning natural attractions. Renting a bike (or bringing your own on the ferry for a small fee) allows you to cycle along the scenic M-185, the only state highway in the U.S. that prohibits cars. This paved road takes you around the entire island, offering breathtaking views of Lake Huron and glimpses of the majestic Mackinac Bridge. Make sure to stop at iconic spots like Arch Rock, a natural limestone arch that's truly a sight to behold, perfect for photos! Another must-see is Fort Mackinac. It's not just a historical site; they often have reenactments and amazing views of the harbor. For those looking for a bit more adventure within the Mackinac Island State Park, there are numerous hiking trails leading to hidden gems and lookout points. While the article mentioned general lookout towers, I personally loved discovering some of the less-crowded ones where you can truly soak in the tranquility. And speaking of soaking it in, a morning on the island isn't complete without grabbing a warm cup of Coffee & a pastry from one of the quaint cafes after an early bike ride. It’s the perfect fuel before hitting the shops or heading towards the Grand Hotel. Yes, the Grand Hotel is a splurge, but even just walking its grounds or having afternoon tea is an experience. Don't forget my absolute favorite: the fudge! There are so many shops, each with unique flavors. I challenge you to try a different one each day! Regarding the best time to visit, while summer, especially July, is bustling with life and activities (think lively streets and full event calendars), consider late spring (May-early June) or early fall (September-early October). The crowds are thinner, the weather is often still beautiful, and you get a different, perhaps more serene, vibe. Plus, some of the fall colors can be absolutely stunning. No matter when you go, booking your ferry tickets online and in advance is always a smart move to avoid those long lines, especially on peak days. Mackinac Island truly offers a unique escape; you'll come back feeling refreshed and full of memories!
