Suddenly, I was experiencing things like persistent brain fog, unexpected anxiety mood swings, and a general dip in energy that made me wonder, "Is this what they mean by perimenopause?" It really hit me that my estrogen starts declining after 35, and it felt like my body was sending out an SOS! I remember feeling desperate, searching for answers on "what to eat to increase female hormones" and "how can I raise my estrogen levels quickly." I wanted to feel like myself again, not constantly battling water retention or worrying about saggy skin and changes to my hair support. So, I started diving deep into research, particularly focusing on estrogen-boosting foods for women. My journey began with a focus on diet. I learned about incorporating more phytoestrogen-rich foods like flaxseeds, soybeans, and lentils into my daily meals. These plant compounds can mimic estrogen in the body, offering a gentle nudge. I also prioritized healthy fats found in avocados, nuts, and seeds, which are crucial for hormone production. Fiber-rich fruits, vegetables, and whole grains became staples, not just for overall health, but because a healthy gut (linking to ideas like BV & gut detox from my research) plays a significant role in how our body processes and eliminates hormones. Eating foods rich in estrogen doesn't mean magically solving everything, but it's a fantastic foundation for balancing my hormones. Beyond food, I realized lifestyle changes were just as vital. Managing stress became a priority – it's amazing how much stress can impact our hormones. Simple practices like mindfulness and regular walks helped calm those anxiety mood swings. I also focused on getting consistent, quality sleep and staying well-hydrated, which helped a lot with that pesky water retention. Regular exercise, even just moderate activity, was great for my overall well-being, providing natural muscle & bone support and boosting my mood. However, I also came to understand that sometimes, especially when estrogen starts declining after 35, diet and lifestyle alone might not be enough to fully address all the symptoms. That's when I started looking into targeted supplements.
