After harvesting the initial crop, instead of discarding the blocks, burying them under a layer of soil and straw creates a nurturing environment for the mushrooms to regenerate. The moisture retention from the straw combined with the nutrients in the spent blocks seems to encourage continued growth. To optimize conditions, I make sure the garden spot is shaded and maintains consistent humidity, as oyster mushrooms thrive in moist, cool environments. Also, turning the soil occasionally helps aerate the area, preventing mold and supporting healthy mycelium development. Over time, you’ll notice the blocks producing fresh oyster mushroom clusters, often more tender and flavorful. This method not only reduces waste but also extends your mushroom growing season. Plus, it’s a rewarding way to engage with sustainable gardening practices while enjoying fresh, homegrown mushrooms. I highly recommend giving this simple technique a try if you want to grow oyster mushrooms effectively at home.
