... Read moreIt's been an incredible adventure exploring 30 of the United States, and seeing them highlighted on my 'States I've Been To' map always brings back so many memories! Deciding on just six favorites was tough, but each of these states truly left a mark on my heart for unique reasons. If you're planning your own American road trip or just curious about what makes certain places special, let me share a bit more about why these six stand out.
First up, North Dakota. Many people overlook it, but for me, it was a revelation. The wide-open spaces, the serene beauty of Theodore Roosevelt National Park with its badlands and bison, it’s just breathtakingly peaceful. It offered a quiet solitude and a chance to truly connect with nature that I hadn't found in many other places. It’s a testament to how sometimes the most unexpected destinations can be the most rewarding.
Then there’s Arizona, a state of incredible contrasts. From the awe-inspiring Grand Canyon, which is even more majestic in person, to the vibrant red rocks of Sedona and the bustling energy of Phoenix, it’s a feast for the senses. I loved exploring the desert landscapes, hiking through stunning rock formations, and experiencing its rich cultural history. The sunsets alone are worth the trip!
Colorado is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts, and I definitely count myself among them. The Rocky Mountains provide endless opportunities for hiking, skiing, and simply soaking in some of the most spectacular alpine scenery anywhere. Driving through the mountain passes, discovering charming ski towns, and breathing in that crisp, clean air makes it an invigorating escape.
Moving southeast, Texas surprised me with its sheer diversity. It’s not just cowboys and ranches, though you can certainly find those! From the vibrant music scene in Austin to the historic charm of San Antonio's Riverwalk, and the Gulf Coast beaches, it's a state that truly has something for everyone. And the food – oh, the food! BBQ, Tex-Mex, you name it, it’s all delicious.
Pennsylvania offered a rich blend of history and natural beauty. Exploring the historic streets of Philadelphia, visiting Gettysburg, and then escaping to the picturesque Pocono Mountains or the rolling countryside – it’s a state that beautifully intertwines the past with stunning landscapes. The charming small towns and vibrant fall foliage are particularly memorable.
Finally, Nevada. While many think of Las Vegas, the state has so much more to offer. Beyond the dazzling lights, you'll find incredible natural wonders like Lake Tahoe, Valley of Fire State Park, and Great Basin National Park. I enjoyed the stark beauty of the desert, the clear night skies, and the unexpected tranquility away from the bustling city. It's a reminder that every state holds hidden gems if you're willing to look.
For anyone inspired to explore more of the US, my biggest advice is to plan a road trip! It's the best way to see the diverse landscapes and quirky roadside attractions. Don't be afraid to veer off the main highways; sometimes the best discoveries are made on a whim. Pack layers, stay hydrated, and most importantly, embrace the unexpected. Every state has its own unique charm, history, and natural wonders waiting to be uncovered. Whether you're aiming to visit 30 states or just a few, the journey itself is the reward, creating memories that will last a lifetime. Traveling across the country truly gives you a sense of the vastness and variety of experiences available right here.
