We're often Told 🪷

4/3 Edited to

... Read moreWhen we hear advice like “follow your own path,” it sounds inspiring but often omits the hard truth behind it—that paths don’t simply exist for us to walk; they must be built. From my personal experience, choosing a direction is just the first step. The real challenge lies in constructing that road as you advance. This involves overcoming unforeseen obstacles, filling gaps where there was no clear guidance, and sometimes retracing steps to lay stones more firmly. For example, in career and personal development, it’s easy to see role models and want to replicate their success. Yet, copying someone else’s path without adapting it to your unique skills and circumstances can lead to frustration. The gaps they left blank must be filled with your own decisions, efforts, and creativity. It’s a process of constant building, remodeling, and persistence. In this regard, the metaphor of 'placing your own stones' resonates deeply. It highlights that a path is not a preset route but an evolving structure shaped by each person. Encouraging someone to build their path means acknowledging the uncertainty and labor involved. It’s also a reminder that every step forward adds strength to the foundation, even if the journey takes longer than expected. Embracing this mindset fosters resilience and patience. It reminds us to value our individuality and the power of self-made progress. Each stone placed, no matter how small, contributes to a path that is authentically ours, allowing us to move forward with confidence despite the unknowns.

White background with black text explaining that a true pelvic floor contraction involves walls drawing in AND up, then lengthening and letting go, contrasting with the common misconception of just stopping pee flow. A simple upward-curving arrow drawing is at the bottom right.
A woman in a grey ribbed athletic set is holding dumbbells, performing a bicep curl. Text overlay states that the pelvic floor needs a full range of motion, including both contraction and release, similar to a bicep curl.
Hot take: kegals often make things worse
If someone told you to "squeeze like you're stopping the flow of pee" during every rep of every exercise, I need you to unlearn that immediately. That cue is probably causing more harm than good because you're only training part of a true pelvic floor contraction. Most of us already hold tension
