Whose Disciple Are You?

Reflecting on my own journey, I've come to realize how much the people we surround ourselves with shape who we are—whether knowingly or not. The concept of being an imitator, as Ephesians 5:1 urges us, resonates deeply because imitation doesn’t require force; it naturally flows from what we absorb daily. Like children who effortlessly mirror their parents, we too mirror the influences in our lives. The prayer in the image reminds me of the ongoing need for humility and surrender in this process: asking God to teach and shape us even when we’re stubborn or resistant. This journey of discipleship isn’t about perfection but about continual growth toward loving, forgiving, and walking in holiness as God does. In practice, I’ve noticed that when I start my day with prayer and meditation on scriptures like Luke 6:36 and Philippians 2:5, I become more conscious of the attitudes and reactions I display. It helps me choose alignment with God’s ways over cultural or personal impulses. For example, deliberately practicing forgiveness during conflicts or choosing kindness over judgment reflects active discipleship. What stands out is that discipleship is a privilege, not a burden—a way to reflect God’s glory authentically. Each day offers a chance to ask, "Whose image do I show?" and to realign if necessary. When we let God shape our thoughts, hearts, and behaviors, our lives become a mirror of His love and light, influencing others in turn. If you find yourself caught in patterns shaped more by culture or self than Christ, take heart. Discipleship is a lifelong path defined by daily choices to follow God’s example. Allow the kindness of God to lead you to repentance and renewed dedication. Remember, as beloved children, we are called to be reflections of the Most High, and embracing this calling transforms not just us but those around us.
