Don’t Hide Your Gift!

Many of us have unique abilities that others often recognize even before we do. From personal experience, when I started embracing the gifts people acknowledged in me—often something I considered just 'ordinary'—I realized how powerful they truly were in impacting others positively. It’s common to feel that our gifts are just “nothing,” but when used, they can be a source of blessing and encouragement not only for others but also for ourselves. The phrase “You are so good at this, you are so blessed! Oh, it's nothing...” perfectly captures the humility many people carry about their talents. However, understanding that ignoring these gifts can feel like dishonoring what God has placed within us encourages us to move from doubt to action. Prayer and reflection help reveal our true calling, especially when combined with feedback and affirmations from those around us. Walking in your gift means acknowledging that these abilities are not only for personal gain but are intended to glorify God and serve others. This aligns with biblical teachings, such as in Matthew 5:15, which encourages believers not to hide their light. It also echoes 1 Peter 4:10, which speaks about using gifts to serve others faithfully. In practical terms, this might mean volunteering your skills in community or church activities, mentoring others, or simply sharing kindness and encouragement in everyday interactions. Each small act of using your gift can illuminate someone’s path, reminding us that we all play a vital role in fulfilling the greater purpose the Holy Spirit guides us toward. If you’ve ever felt small or insignificant because others keep coming to you for a particular skill or comfort and you dismiss it as 'nothing,' it’s time to reconsider. Your gift is a light in the night for someone else, and embracing it can transform lives—including your own.
