Dealing with narcissistic abuse often means confronting not just the abuser but also those who enable the abuse. Enablers, especially in the case of narcissistic mothers, can dismiss or justify abusive behavior, frequently using the excuse "but that's your mother" to silence victims. This common response minimizes the abuse and invalidates victims' feelings, making recovery even harder. In my personal experience with narcissistic abuse recovery, I found that enablers often come from ignorance rather than malice. They either lack understanding of the trauma or want to avoid uncomfortable truths. This can lead to victim-blaming or absolving the abuser of responsibility based on generational patterns or misplaced loyalty. However, it's important to recognize that knowing "it's your mother" does not excuse abusive actions or protect the abuser from accountability. Recovery requires setting boundaries not only with the narcissist but also with enablers who enable this toxic dynamic, even unintentionally. Surrounding yourself with support networks that validate your experiences and help you differentiate between normal and abusive behavior is crucial. This journey is difficult, but acknowledging the role of enablers can empower you to stop defending the abuser and start prioritizing your mental health. Remember, enablers may say things that seem profound or guilt-inducing, but their words do not define your reality. You have the right to seek safety, healing, and respect, regardless of blood relations. Healing is about reclaiming your voice and understanding that abuse is never acceptable or justifiable, no matter who the perpetrator is.

no one talks about the hard parts of being a sahm
hello ◡̈ I truly do love being with my baby all day. I am extremely grateful that I have a partner who supports my decision to stay home with my son. When I was asked what I wanted to be when I grew up I would say “I want to be a stay at home mom who tends to her home & garden.” I 100% believe
