It’s okay to prioritize your sanity and emotional health over societal expectations that do not serve your well-being. Narcissistic mothers often instill deep-rooted feelings of guilt to manipulate their targets — recognizing this is a crucial first step in breaking free from their conditioning. Accepting that you are an adult with the right to make your own choices helped me stop comparing myself to others who had “normal” mothers. It’s empowering to acknowledge that your mother’s behavior is about her issues, not your worth or responsibilities.
