Air New Zealand review - Economy class

Air NZ's punctuality stressed me out even before the trip began. Not sure if we were just unlucky and booked the one flight that's always late, or does AirNZ really have punctuality problems 😭

I was pleasantly surprised the food was good and I usually hate airplane food!

Would I take Air NZ again? I'm not sure, maybe? But I'm not sure if it would be my first choice when heading back to New Zealand & I still love New Zealand though 🤩

... Read moreFlying with Air New Zealand in economy class gave me a balanced travel experience worth sharing. One key aspect to consider is punctuality. Based on my journey, particularly the Singapore to Auckland flight, delays seemed frequent, sometimes by more than an hour. It’s reassuring that the airline rebooks affected passengers promptly, and cabin crew remain helpful and communicative during disruptions. This level of service helped ease some of the stress caused by delayed departures. When it comes to the in-flight experience, I was pleasantly surprised by the meal quality. Contrary to the common expectation of bland airplane food, the lemon chicken dinner was well-prepared, with the rice fluffy and the chicken moist. Breakfast options such as the croissant were also delightful – warm and fresh. Snacks were available on domestic flights, while international routes offered a more substantial menu, including omelettes and soft sausage. The entertainment selection, featuring popular titles like Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings, provided a decent variety to keep travelers engaged during the long haul. In terms of comfort, the economy seats were adequate for a medium-haul flight. I am 152 cm tall and found the legroom ample, which may not be the case for taller passengers, but overall, seat design prevented back strain. The cleanliness level on board met my expectations, with no visible dirt in seat crevices. USB ports and power sockets on international flights were convenient for charging devices, though these were absent on domestic routes. Overall, would I choose Air New Zealand again? If punctuality is less of a concern and you value good service and food quality, it’s definitely a contender. However, for critical schedules, especially connecting flights, the history of delays with specific routes should be taken into account. This review aims to help fellow travelers prepare better and set practical expectations when flying Air New Zealand’s economy service.
